JOB TITLE: In-house title is Head of Sustainability
DEPARTMENT: Sustainability, Chief Operating Group
LOCATION: Office Base at any of the BBC's main offices (London, Birmingham, Salford, Cardiff, Glasgow, Belfast) with hybrid-working expected.
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £95,000 - £105,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
This Business Partner for sustainability role is an exciting opportunity to work in the BBC Group's Sustainability team which leads the organisation's approach to sustainability and is responsible for the delivery of our Net Zero, Nature Positive and People Positive strategy and program.
The role is to lead and drive sustainability activity and Transformation across the Operational Divisions on behalf of BBC Group. BBC Group encompasses Public Service broadcasting and commercial subsidiaries, including BBC Studios and international entities. You will report into the BBC's Sustainability Officer and sit within the BBC Group Sustainability team.
The role will sit in the central sustainability team reporting into the BBC's Sustainability Officer working as a key business partner for the following Divisions / Subsidiaries:
* Technology & Media Operations
* Workplace
* Product Group
* HR and Finance
* Procurement
* CRBA & Distribution
* BBC Studios
* Quality Risk & Assurance
The focus will be largely around decarbonising our operations and bringing together the key Divisions and stakeholders for ensuring our decarbonisation journey is fully optimised and properly managed.
This business partner role will liaise actively with each of the Divisions to provide sustainability as a service which meets their needs. The stakeholders will be brought together against a program of work through monthly Steering Meetings. This role will lead and drive engagement ensuring that all sustainability activity is focused on the achievement of our Targets whilst being implemented in an optimised and cost-efficient way.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
Key activities and responsibilities include:
* Engaging with the operational divisions and leads across BBC Group as a business partner, on the delivery of our sustainability strategy and targets. Presentations at key meetings with senior stakeholders as required.
* Program management of the pan-BBC operational program of work for all key Divisions. Ensuring activities and projects are managed with clear outputs, deliverables and timelines defined with key owners identified. Leading and developing abatement initiatives to be included in our Net Zero abatement models, project management systems and supporting dashboards.
* Provision of technical solutions and carbon accounting expertise to support and develop key projects / decisions. For example, investigating the impact of AI. Sharing this knowledge and expertise with teams as needed.
* Strong delivery and transformation focus – ensuring the program is fully optimised and is driving progress against our sustainability targets and goals.
* Working within the Group sustainability team as a technical lead and expert, working closely with the Net Zero lead and technical team; as well as Nature and People positive leads.
* Working knowledge of the sustainability considerations in technology, including
* commercial awareness and business case development
* sustainable procurement
* digital sustainability and cloud optimisation
* circular economy for IT hardware
* identify opportunities for innovation
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
To be successful in this role you will need:
* Proven sustainability expertise with a track record of delivering impactful initiatives in a business or consulting environment.
* Leadership and team management skills, including experience engaging employees and volunteers across diverse sustainability communities.
* Exceptional project management capabilities, able to oversee complex programs and drive operational improvements.
* Strong communication and influencing skills, confident in written, oral, and presentation formats, with experience engaging senior stakeholders.
* Change leadership experience, including developing training, communication strategies, and engagement plans to achieve COO targets e.g. staff survey outcomes, reduce business travel etc.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
* MSc in Environmental Science / Sustainability / Engineering or relevant academic subject
* Previous Transformation experience in a large and complex organisation (either in-house or consulting)
* Experience in a similar role in the media or broadcast environment
