Job Responsibilities
* Assist the Health and Safety Manager in supporting the Council's Health & Safety Team and promoting a positive health and safety culture.
* Encourage employees to take responsibility for health and safety issues.
* Commit to the Council's Vision and work within the spirit of its core values.
* Operate health, safety, and welfare systems in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
* Assist in delivering and reviewing service standards, quality, and performance targets.
* Work with the Health and Safety Manager to ensure costs are within the financial budget.
* Create an open environment within the Service Unit where employees feel supported and involved.
* Assist on specific projects as they arise.
* Utilize available technology to improve communications within the Service Unit.
* Work within the spirit of equal opportunities and customer care focus.
* Undertake personal development related to job duties and responsibilities.
* Provide day-to-day general health and safety support and advice to employees and managers.
* Prepare management information and statistical data regarding accident statistics and other performance-related information.
* Develop and implement the health and safety management tool across all Service Areas.
* Coordinate and organize health and safety-related training, ensuring attendance as required.
* Prepare training presentations on health and safety topics as needed.
* Prepare asbestos and other health and safety-related reports for various audiences.
* Enter asbestos surveys into the Council's asbestos management database and keep it updated.
* Provide support across the Health and Safety team, including handling written enquiries and invoicing.
* Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures.
* Promote health and safety awareness across the Council.
* Undertake other tasks and duties as assigned, commensurate with the grade of the post.
Person Specification
* Experience in a varied administrative role (Essential).
* Experience in local government or public sector (Desirable).
* Experience providing advice on general health and safety issues (Essential).
* Educated to Level 2, GCSE A-C, or equivalent, including English and Maths (Essential).
* NEBOSH General Certificate or willingness to work towards it (Desirable).
* Awareness of Health and Safety legislation and ability to interpret it appropriately (Essential).
* Good computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Essential).
* Effective communication skills at all levels, face-to-face, over the phone, and in writing (Essential).
* Ability to manage time effectively and work on own initiative (Essential).
* Ability to set up and maintain accurate records (Essential).
* Able to work and share ideas in a team environment (Essential).
* Positive attitude towards changing situations (Essential).
* Able to work well under pressure to meet deadlines (Essential).
* Understanding and commitment to the Council's Core Values and Vision (Essential).
* Good attendance record (Essential).
