Interviews will be held on Wednesday 27th August 2025

Whitburn Academy is a six-year comprehensive school offering our 855 students in the Whitburn area a progressive, relevant, challenging, and enjoyable curriculum with opportunities for personalisation and choice. We strive to ensure that students have the highest quality learning experiences.

We offer the full range of National Qualifications found in a modern Scottish secondary school. We aim to provide experiences that foster a creative and enterprising attitude in our students, developing young people with pride and ambition to contribute positively to the local, national, and international community.

Whitburn Academy provides an environment where all students can succeed. Our excellent facilities, combined with our staff's commitment, enable us to deliver the highest standards of education in a safe, caring, and stimulating environment—an environment where every member of the school community is valued and their achievements recognized.

We recognize that the curriculum encompasses not only what students learn but also how they learn. We emphasize the student experience and seek flexibility to help students succeed in examinations and through personal achievement pathways.

The school has 65 teaching staff, with departments organized under the direction of a Principal Teacher Curriculum responsible for each curricular area.

You will collaborate with all stakeholders within Whitburn Academy to ensure a high-quality student experience that reflects curricular design principles and student entitlements, with the ultimate goal of maximizing achievement and attainment for all. Our vision is to empower young people to learn and achieve, enabling them to thrive now and in the future. The school values—compassion, integrity, respect—are fundamental to our daily life.

We are committed to employing a diverse workforce that reflects the people of Scotland. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, especially from groups currently under-represented, including people with disabilities, those from minority ethnic communities, or socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

West Lothian Council is dedicated to transformative changes in how we deliver our Education Services. These include providing support and an environment conducive to your professional growth. Our commitment is demonstrated by achieving the Investors in People Standard and continually striving for excellence in our service delivery and improvement.

A relevant teaching qualification and registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland are essential.

This position is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check before a formal offer of employment is made by West Lothian Council.

The fee for Full PVG Scheme Membership is £59, or £18 for existing members.
