We are looking for applicants who can work Monday to Friday at Breakfast club from 7.30-9am and from 3pm to 6 pm at our busy afterschool club based at Morgans JMI School Hertford. Applicants will only be considered on the understanding they are able to start work at 3pm. Experience of working with primary aged children essential. Ideally we would like one applicant to do 22.5 hours per week to provide continuity at Breakfast and Afterschool but would consider applicants who can do a few days a week including Wed Thurs and Fri. Playleaders are employed on behalf of the Management Committee to assist in providing a safe, caring and professional environment for the children attending The Dell Out of School Club. The Playleader is line managed by The Club Manager or Deputy DUTIES 1) To provide and maintain close supervision of the children in your care at all times, ensuring that all children are cared for in a safe and caring environment. 2) To help in the planning organisation and delivery of a wide range of play activities appropriate to the needs of the children attending the Dell. 3) To strictly adhere to the agreed Dell discipline procedures. 4) To work within a team of Playleaders to deliver activities for children, which they enjoy and that encourage their all round development. 5) To promote teamwork environment in conjunction with other staff and volunteers 6) To ensure that the Senior Playleaders/Coordinator are aware of any incidents affecting the welfare of children in your care. To maintain confidentiality at all times. 7) If qualified, to administer or supervise any first aid as required 8) To ensure that play materials & equipment are properly used, maintained, moved and stored and ensure that any breakages/ losses are notified to the Senior Playleader/Coordintor. 9) To prepare, store and purchase if required nutritional snacks for children ensuring compliance to Food Hygiene standards. 10) To help ensure that all areas used by the club are left safe, clean and tidy. 11) To implement and adhere to policies laid down by the Management Committee and in particular the Health and Safety policy, Safeguarding procedures and staff Guidelines. 12) To be committed to developing and maintaining an inclusive/non discriminatory environment that respects the children’s individual differences 13) To attend meetings and training sessions as appropriate. 14) To complete any other reasonable duties that are requested. NB This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Applicants must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders that have been made against them. The offer of the Playleader position is dependant on a clear check from the Disclosure and Barring Service DBS (CRB) and at least 2 satisfactory written references. PERSON SPECIFICATION - PLAYLEADER 18 years* to meet the OFSTED compliance of 1 adult to 8 children ratio. (*Exempt from Age Discrimination legislation.) Interest enthusiasm and or experience in childcare/early year’s play, youth work, or work undertaken in a primary school setting such as classroom assistant/midday supervisor. Reliability in time keeping, performance and behaviour with children. Ability to engage and communicate well with children aged 3 – 11years. Ability to provide safe, creative activities for children, which they will enjoy. The ability to work as part of a staff team, following instructions and being flexible when appropriate. To have good verbal communication skills with staff parents and children. A commitment to equal opportunities. Awareness of Health and Safety issues and in particular around Protective Measures to combat COVID To assist in food preparation/storage and cooking of simple snacks for children A willingness to undertake training. DESIRABLE FOR THE JOB An energetic approach to the work of the club. A current First Aid Certificate in Emergency First Aid for Children. Childcare or play qualification i.e. NVQ or CACHE. Basic Food Hygiene certificate. Interviews will aim to identify where candidates match the specification outlined above. Candidates will be asked questions, which will give them the opportunity to demonstrate how they meet the specification, and they may find it helpful to bring to interview examples of work they have done with children (photos, portfolio, pack holidays or activity plans).
