The research nurse will be employed for specific projects on “Reducing skin tone inequalities in chronic venous insufficiency”. They will be involved in several aspects of the research process from recruitment, data collection and analysis.
The Research Nurse will play a key role in ensuring that any research undertaken within the department safeguards the wellbeing of the patients and is conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP). In conjunction with the other members of the team, they will facilitate the production of good quality of research.
The post holder will take responsibility for consenting patients, arranging and collecting research data (including but not limited to, undertaking semi-structured interviews, obtaining clinical assessments of patient’s lower legs, obtaining patient data from electronic health records and coordinating clinical photographs). They will ensure records and data are safely and appropriately stored and reported. The post holder will also be involved in the analysis of data including the formatting and analysis of quantitative data, and the qualitative coding and thematic analysis of interview transcripts using NVivo software.
The post holder may be working at several sites across Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trusts, and will also be required to work in Kings College London at the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care.
Note there may be scope to reduce to hours/week if required.

Main duties of the job
Your main duties will include the following
1. Recruiting to, and following up, patients within studies. Obtain written informed consent.
2. Carry out planned care required by the clinical trials protocol for a group of volunteers without direct supervision (including clinical tasks such as clinical observation and lower limb assessments)
3. Maintain accurate documentation in clinical trial documents and patient notes.
4. Deal with concerns raised by volunteers and visitors in a proactive manner and take remedial action as necessary.
5. Act as the volunteers advocate
6. Ensure data is transferred between sites securely and in accordance with Trust guidelines and data transfer arrangements
7. Carry out planned analysis of quantitative and qualitative data analysis required in the clinical studies.
8. Contribute to the dissemination of research findings including being involved in writing reports and contributing to journal articles.
9. The role will involve working closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams and specialist clinical teams.
10. You will work with the chief investigator and wider research team for this project.
11. Practice in accordance with the Amended Regulations 2006 Incorporating International Conference on Harmonisation of Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP), the Research Governance Framework and within the Nursing and Midwifery (NMC) code. Maintain patient confidentiality.

Working for our organisation
The Research Nurse will involve working both within Guy's and St Thomas' NHS foundation trust and with partners in the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing Midwifery and Palliative Care at King's College London.
This will include working at several sites across Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trusts (vascular clinics, surgery unit, community services), and will involving working at the Kings College London site.
You will be part of the research team of the project on "Reducing skin tone inequalities in chronic venous insufficiency” funded by the General Nursing Council Trust.
Training and support will be provided to enable you to succeed in this role which may include but not limited to training on interview technique and data analysis.
