Job description
Parliamentary Assistant for Sarah Boyack MSP
Hours: Full time – 35 hours per week
Salary: £30,912 - £36,406
Location: Parliament/home working
Working for a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP)
This is an exciting role to support the smooth running of Sarah’s Parliamentary office by supporting with administration and research.
Sarah is looking for an enthusiastic individual who can multitask, has strong attention to detail and can work as part of a small team. Full training and continuous development will be put in place to meet the needs of the successful candidate.
This post will be based between the Scottish Parliament and home working.
Responsibilities
* Drafting written correspondence such as letters and requests for information.
* Support in managing the MSP inbox.
* Carrying out research projects.
* Obtaining and compiling relevant research documents from external bodies.
* Drafting Parliamentary Questions
* Analysing, evaluating and interpreting data and statistics.
* Responding to incoming correspondence in a professional and timely manner.
* Maintaining filing system and managing records.
* Supporting with keeping casework up to date and responding to public enquiries.
* Keeping cases up to date by tracking, logging and recognising when to escalate issues within team.
* Ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and GDPR requirements.
* Providing general administrative and secretarial support where required.
* Arranging meetings and booking rooms.
* Participate in team meetings.
* Have a commitment to continuous professional development and attend relevant training and development opportunities.
* Work in line with relevant Scottish Parliament organisational policies.
Requirements
* Have an interest in politics.
* Have excellent organisational skills.
* Have excellent communication skills with accurate attention to detail.
* Be able to work independently where required on agreed tasks and contribute effectively to a friendly and high performing team.
* Be a quick learner with the ability to multitask and work within tight timescales.
* Be a proactive problem solver with the motivation and resilience to adapt and deal with challenges.
* Have analytical skills with the ability to identify and investigate trends with interpreting data.
* Have the creative flair and expertise to produce accurate and influential work.
