As a key member of the MSK Therapy Services team, you will assist physiotherapists with the implementation and delivery of MSK therapy services.
Responsibilities include:
* Assist physiotherapists with implementation of MSK therapy services.
* Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team, assisting with specified duties, both clinical and non‑clinical.
* Support therapists with day‑to‑day operational needs and the requirements of the clinical area.
* Accept delegated tasks effectively within the clinical environment.
* Test and maintain therapy equipment, including regular testing of the hydrotherapy pool and electrotherapy machines.
* Assist in the maintenance of health and safety within the department.
* Assist with administration duties (photocopying and filing).
* Provide administration cover at the main reception desk when needed.
* Work with qualified therapists to facilitate the patient’s progression through the treatment plan, within protocols set by the supervising therapist.
* Implement delegated tasks that form part of the patient’s treatment programme, reporting back to the supervising therapist.
* Prioritise and plan own daily programme of work.
* Review caseload regularly and report to senior therapist when concerns arise.
* Use initiative in responding to unforeseen clinical situations.
* Document interventions accurately and promptly, keeping the overseeing therapists updated.
* Provide cross‑team cover as required within the limits of competencies.
Typical Clinical Duties
* Supervise and progress exercise programmes.
* Gait re‑education and progression.
* Administer electrotherapy.
* Assist and occasionally lead rehabilitation classes.
* Assist with aquatic therapy services.
* Assist a therapist with a patient who requires more than one person present for treatment.
Typical Non‑Clinical Duties
* Test and maintain therapy equipment, including regular testing of the hydrotherapy pool and electrotherapy machines.
* Assist in the maintenance of health and safety within the department.
* Assist with administration duties (photocopying and filing).
* Provide administration cover at the main reception desk when needed.
* Ensure the workspace is set out appropriately and tidily.
* Maintain cleaning standards of the department, gym and hydrotherapy area.
* Document interventions accurately and promptly, keeping supervising therapists informed.
* Run an exercise class alongside the therapist or fitness instructor, reporting any changes in the patient’s level of participation promptly.
* Monitor stock levels of linen, tape, paperwork and other items used regularly within the therapy department.
* Carry out therapy treatments, including moving and positioning patients.
* Meet clinical governance requirements to promote a service culture.
* Use appropriate techniques with clients who have communication difficulties (e.g., hearing impairment, cognitive or perceptual impairment).
* Obtain consent for therapy from patients after explaining the treatment activity.
* Motivate and persuade others through effective communication skills.
* Communicate sensitive information to patients and carers.
* Liaise with relevant therapists.
* Manage potentially stressful, upsetting or emotional situations empathically.
* Adhere to trust policies and procedures.
* Participate in regular supervision sessions with line manager.
* Participate in annual appraisal and objective setting with line manager, incorporating a personal development plan.
