Business Administration Summer Internship

STFC Scientific Computing is an international centre of excellence for advanced computing expertise and digital research infrastructure. We provide the vital skills and tools required for modern research and innovation through our depth of expertise and knowledge, combined with our global network of partners and internationally renowned facilities.

The Business Administration team sit within the Operations function in Scientific Computing. We support the scientists across the department, in a variety of functions and capacities, including email/calendar management, purchasing, travel booking, meeting support & management, event coordination, licensing, project/programme support, website management and so much more. We are a cohesive supportive team who take pride in their work and proactively identify and implement improvements in practices and processes to maximise our effectiveness and efficiency, and that of the department.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is keen to explore the diverse experiences we adopt, and develop the crucial, foundational skills for their future careers in administration and other core support functions. They will be mentored by motivated enablers and given training opportunities to equip them to make impactful contributions to the team.


Summer Placements at STFC

STFC’s incredibly diverse range of placements allow you to work alongside world leading engineers, scientists, and technicians in highly collaborative environments. Whichever you choose, you will become a critical member of the team in which you will be exposed to exciting projects and challenges from the start. You will also be supported every step of the way by our dedicated Early Careers Development Team


Key Duties & Responsibilities

* Admin tasks such as email, calendar and document management
* Building management tasks, such as general housekeeping, inventory administration
* IT support tasks in response to issue monitoring
* SharePoint and Teams administration, such as content upload and access
* Additional duties as required


Person Specification

The below criteria will be scored during Shortlisting (S), Interview (I) or both (S&I).

In order to apply for the role, we are looking for the following:

Essential:

* You are in full time education at university, and will be returning to university/your studies to complete your undergraduate degree once the summer placement has concluded (S)
* You have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement (S)
* Good solid understanding of Microsoft Apps including Word, Excel and PowerPoint (S&I)
* Good communication skills (S&I)
* Good problem solving skills (I)
* Flexible working style with a willingness to develop business transferable skills (S&I)
* Able to commute to site at least 3 days per week (S). Please make sure this is stated in your cover letter.

Desirable

* Experience and/or understanding of the job role (e.g supporting a school/college/university society, a project requiring inventory or monitoring tasks etc) (S&I)
