Overview
The Faculty of Music at the University of Cambridge, home to the University's largest performing venue - West Road Concert Hall - is seeking a new member to join its Custodian team. This team plays a vital role in facilities management and user support, ensuring the building operates smoothly and safely for teaching staff, students and external hirers. Custodians help maintain a welcoming, clean, secure, and well-organised environment. They ensure the building is ready for use, offer guidance on facilities, represent the Faculty during out-of-hours events, and serve as a key communication link between building users and Faculty staff.
Responsibilities
* Ensure the building is ready for use and maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and security.
* Offer guidance on facilities and act as a point of contact for building users and external hirers.
* Represent the Faculty during out-of-hours events and support user needs as a key communication link with Faculty staff.
* Work flexibly to cover the shift pattern, including evenings and weekends.
* Current Custodians oversee the Concert Hall bar and take responsibility for cleaning and maintenance; familiarity with theatrical AV equipment and infrastructure would be beneficial, though not essential.
Requirements/Qualifications
* Relevant experience in facilities support or custodial roles.
* Ability to work a flexible shift pattern, including evenings and weekends.
* Strong communication and organisational skills with tact and patience.
* Familiarity with theatrical AV equipment and infrastructure is desirable but not essential.
Salary and Benefits
In addition to the basic salary, a shift allowance worth approximately 10% of salary is offered to reflect evening, weekend, and bank holiday work.
