Engineers at Amazon design resilient, cost-effective mechanical services systems. We are responsible for achieving world-class uptime for our customers. We justify and communicate technical decisions to senior management and drive continuous advancements with our designs. You will drive change and define/design the systems customers rely on.

AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centres and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.
Key job responsibilities
* Lead within the group and within internal and external teams that support our data centres.
* Work with internal teams to understand user requirements.
* Participate in site selection reviews.
* Manage design consultancy firms to create, review and release data centre designs.
* Manage change, versioning and configuration control.
* Work with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements.
* Define and approve project scopes, RFP and RFI.
* Work with local agencies having jurisdiction (AHJ) to ensure compliance with city/county requirements and building codes.
* Work with commissioning teams to validate installation, operation and performance of systems.
* Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
* Travel for site review and conduct engineering evaluations, audits, and site launches.
* Review and approve equipment submittals.
* Work with internal teams to troubleshoot problems and conduct RCA and CA for design related problems.
* Define project scopes and provide support during construction phases.
* Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate mechanical equipment.
* Be positive and offer creative out-of-the-box solutions.

Your work involves innovative design conceptualization, site selection reviews, and driving technical solutions that push the boundaries of data center engineering.
Basic Qualifications
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering and several years of experience with mission critical air and water cooling HVAC design.
* Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
* Ability to carry new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/construction.
* Perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and present the justification to management in a high level review.
Preferred Qualifications
* Chartered Engineer with Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
* Experience directly related to data center or mission critical facility design such as Pharmaceutical, Hospital or Semi-Conductor projects. Understanding of BIM & CFD modelling.
* Previous consultant negotiation and management skills associated with design, construction and project execution.
* Experience with fast track design/build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects.
* Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms. Knowledge of building codes and regulations.
