Senior Operations Business Assistant Admin & Clerical Location: Duncrue Industrial Estate, 31–51 Duncrue Road, Belfast, BT3 9BP Start Date: 05 January 2026 Hours: 37 hours per week Pay Rates PAY: £17.18 per hour Eligibility (Essential Criteria) Applicants must, at the closing date and throughout the selection process, be either: A current Belfast City Council employee, or A current Belfast City Council agency assignee Existing council employees who have passed the Skill-Check computer-based assessment for Clerical Officer, WPO/Clerk or Business Support Clerk campaigns will be deemed to have the equivalent of five GCSEs (A–C) including English. Experience (Essential) Applicants must demonstrate at least one year’s relevant experience in each of the following areas: Carrying out a range of office and administrative duties for management Updating and maintaining IT systems, including producing reports and compiling/analyzing service information Supervising staff on a daily basis, ensuring work targets are met Role Overview Reporting to the Waste Collection Manager, the post holder will be responsible for controlling communication network systems and assisting in the coordination of service delivery across Waste Collection, Transport and Priority Waste services. The role supports the efficient delivery of cleansing services to domestic and commercial customers, ensuring operational objectives are met through effective supervision, communication, and administration. Key Responsibilities Control and manage communication systems within Refuse/Waste Collection services, including radios and telephones Record messages and respond to operational enquiries from staff and the Cleansing Call Centre Coordinate and disseminate instructions and communications to staff in a timely manner Provide administrative support across sections (typing, filing, minute taking, etc.) Update and maintain management information systems (e.g. GPS, route optimisation, MIS) and produce reports Provide technical and systems support to Waste Collection, Transport and Priority Waste teams Oversee fuel key/card issuing and monitor fuel usage Manage stock, goods, and service provision for relevant sections Assist in preparing daily schedules and route optimisation processes Coordinate tasks and instructions on behalf of Waste Collection Management teams Manage and resolve complaints in line with Council procedures Supervise staff engaged in daily administrative activities Assist with staff training and development through the PDP process Support management in implementing change programmes and service improvements Liaise with Council departments, the public, and external bodies to ensure service coordination Participate in recruitment, induction, training, and HR procedures Act in accordance with Council policies including customer care, equality, health & safety, safeguarding, and relevant legislation Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role as required This role operates within a changing organisational environment and requires flexibility and adaptability as duties evolve. ⏰ Working Hours Monday – Thursday: 7:30am – 3:30pm Friday: 7:30am – 3:00pm
