Job Overview
South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Community Paediatrician with relevant expertise to complement our clinical team and contribute to the delivery of services in Warwickshire. The post will support pathways of working with children with neurodevelopmental needs and there is an opportunity for an enthusiastic paediatrician to undertake the role of Named Doctor for our Children in Care following notice of retirement. This is a 10 PA job though applicants wishing to work more flexibly or job share should apply.

There is a strong commitment to equitable and effective community service provision. The successful applicant may have opportunities to develop a special interest and take on leadership roles within service needs, and contribute to the development of services within the organisation and integrated care system in the local region.
Main duties
The Community Paediatric team in Warwickshire is a countywide team of doctors, based by locality, delivering high standards of care to children and their families within the community. The team provides specialist assessment and ongoing holistic care for children and young people with long-term and often complex health conditions/disability and manages vulnerable children. The team undertakes statutory medical assessments for Education, Health and Care Plans, Looked After Children and non-acute child protection assessments referred from local authorities and agencies. Multidisciplinary and interagency working is a significant part of the role, collaborating with the Family Health Division within SWFT, primary care, CAMHS and colleagues in other local units. We provide services in partnership with the local authority and other organisations to meet community health needs.
* Clinical Commitments: Paediatric Clinics – provide consultant assessment, treatment and advice in general and complex paediatric conditions, child development, neuro-disability, child protection and complex behavioural concerns. Referrals come from hospital, community health professionals and other agencies. Clinics are scheduled to locally agreed templates responsive to local and family needs.
* Special School Clinic – assess and manage referrals from school nurses and teachers; clinics are scheduled to meet local needs.
* Meet statutory duties for Warwickshire children within appropriate timescales, including medical reports for Education Health and Care plans and looked after children health assessments.
* Participate in Child Protection responsibilities including medical assessments for Warwickshire children; assessments for suspected sexual abuse are via the Regional West Midlands Paediatric Sexual Assault service.
* Participate in telephone consultations with parents/guardians of children with complex health needs.
Person Specification
* Essential
* MBCHB or equivalent obtained through examination
* MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* Capable to work at Consultant level in Community Child Health
* Desirable
* Higher degree, e.g. MSc, MD or PhD in Paediatrics
* CCT or equivalent in subspecialty of Community Child Health
