Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit 2 Dental Receptionists to support the Weekend Emergency Dental Service, Base location is Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine. This post is offered on a permanent basis.

Hours:

8 hours per week.

The Weekend Emergency Dental Service operates Saturday and Sunday, successful candidates will work a 1:4 shift pattern on a rolling rota. 9.30am 1.30pm both days.

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

UK Driving Licence:

A UK driving licence is essential for this role.

What you will do:

To provide reception duties and administrative support to the Emergency Dental Service at Ayrshire Central Hospital.

To undertake reception of patients, make appointments, deal with all paperwork and patient payments

Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post:

Working within the Emergency Dental Service as a receptionist, you should be educated to Standard Grade level or equivalent. Have experience of working with the public/patients.

The Emergency Dental Service is busy and can be challenging at times, therefore applicants should have excellent organisational skills as well as highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work on own initiative, when required and as part of a team, should be motivated, and be flexible covering vacancies as and when they arise.

Dental knowledge/experience of working in a dental environment is desirable, as is experience in taking patients payments, completion of GP17, using an appointment system and keeping a daybook. Experience of using a clinical software package (Kodak R4 dental clinical software) would be an advantage.

Experience of using Microsoft Office computer packages. Full training will be provided on the use of dental computer systems.
