Grade UE07: £41,064 - £48,822 per annum pro-rata as part-time

CMVM / SPHS / USHER Institute / BioQuarter

Part-time: 17.5 hours per week

Fixed-term: available from May 2026 until 31st March 2028



The Centre for Global Health at the Usher Institute within The University of Edinburgh is looking for an Evidence synthesis and literature search specialist to carry out research activities as part of a fully-funded research programme and subprojects aimed at producing and disseminating high-quality systematic reviews and evidence syntheses on a wide range of health and social care topics.

The Opportunity:
The post holder will have the opportunity, in collaboration with other researchers, topic and wide-ranging methods experts, to help develop and/or co-author evidence syntheses including providing methodological advice and expertise on literature searching, screening and identification for both research protocols and full reviews. Also, to contribute to the training activities of the programme, including other researchers and students and to assist in the ongoing development of the research portfolio of the programme, especially around the incorporation of automation and tools into the review production process.

Your skills and attributes for success:
• Academic degree in the field of information science, library and information studies, public health, health sciences or a related field.
• Relevant experience in a research environment.
• Experience in conducting own literature review to completion.
• Experience in developing complex search strategies using major electronic databases such as MEDLINE and EMBASE.
• Experience in using reference management software such as EndNote.
• Experience in reviewing and evaluating search strategies.
• Excellent inter-personal, writing and communications skills.
• Ability to work as part of a small, closely knit team while maintaining considerable autonomy.
• Ability to prioritise own workload, manage time and work to deadlines.
• Excellent computing, auditing and record-keeping skills.
• Understanding of different types of epidemiological study.
• Interest in incorporating new technologies into literature searching and screening.
