AI Engineer - Job Specification
Location : Belfast & Derry/Londonderry
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled AI Engineer with proven expertise in developing and deploying advanced machine learning, Agentic AI, and large language model (LLM) solutions that drive measurable business impact. This role requires hands-on experience building AI models and automation pathways across diverse use cases including finance forecasting, energy optimisation, predictive maintenance, supply chain planning, and commercial transformation, leveraging modern cloud-based AI platforms.
Your client impact
1. Develop, and deploy end-to-end machine learning models for complex business problems across forecasting, optimization, and prediction domains
2. Build and fine-tune large language models (LLMs) for enterprise applications including document intelligence, conversational AI, and decision support systems
3. Substantial understanding of solving data science and AI enabled problems in supply chain, finance, commercial or operations domain or AI agents with reasoning capabilities using LLMs
4. Adapt to a wide range of technical challenges across technologies to design a solution applicable to the business issue
5. Translate business requirements into technical AI/ML features, model selection, architecture decisions
6. Conduct exploratory data analysis and communicate insights
7. Collaborate with data engineers, architects, and business analysts on integrated solutions
8. Build feature engineering pipelines and automated data preparation workflows
9. Design AI solutions for commercial transformation including pricing optimisation, customer segmentation, and revenue management
10. Develop scalable AI/ML pipelines on Databricks, Azure Machine Learning, and/or Snowflake platforms
11. Deploy and manage agentic AI and automation solutions, ensuring continuous learning, adaptation, and improvement in live business environments.
12. Contribute to proposals and technical assessments for new opportunities and internal knowledge transfer
Essential Qualifications
13. Degree or equivalent certification in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related quantitative field
Essential Criteria
14. Experience designing and delivering solutions using large language models (, GPT, Claude, Llama, Mistral or similar)
15. Practical exposure to at least one modern AI/ML platform such as Databricks (MLflow, AutoML), Azure Machine Learning, or Snowflake (Snowpark ML, Cortex)
16. Understanding of natural language processing, computer vision, and recommender systems
17. Strong programming skills in Python, SQL and proficiency with ML libraries ( scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy, XGBoost, LightGBM)

18. Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
19. Ability to work independently and drive projects from ambiguous requirements
20. Story telling with data and insights from the outputs
21. Consulting skills, supporting development of presentation decks and communication
Preferred Criteria
Experience or knowledge covering at least one of the following areas:
22. Good knowledge of key machine learning techniques, including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning
23. Experience applying statistical modelling, time-series forecasting, and predictive analytics in practical scenarios
24. Experience with deep learning frameworks ( TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras)
25. Knowledge of prompt engineering, RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation), and LLM fine-tuning techniques
26. Familiarity with distributed computing frameworks ( Spark)
27. Knowledge of graph neural networks, reinforcement learning, or causal inference
28. Experience with AI governance, model risk management, and regulatory compliance
29. Experience using Pro code and Low code tools such as LangGraph, UiPath, AutoGen, Semantic Kernal, and MS CoPilot and Power Platform
30. Experience in any of the following:
31. Finance Forecasting: Revenue prediction, cashflow modelling, financial planning, risk modelling
32. Energy Optimisation: Load forecasting, grid optimization, demand response, renewable energy prediction
33. Predictive Maintenance: Equipment failure prediction, anomaly detection, remaining useful life estimation
34. Supply Chain Planning: Demand forecasting, inventory optimization, logistics planning, procurement analytics
35. Commercial Transformation: Price optimization, customer lifetime value, churn prediction, marketing mix modelling
