About Us:
Valmech are specialists in all aspects of mechanical services including district heating installations, plant rooms, heating & domestic pipework services and gas pipework. We also specialise in pre-fabricated pipework, containerised plantrooms and mechanical installations within the aviation sector.

The Role:
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join Valmech and support the commercial success of our projects across the UK. You will take ownership of the financial and contractual aspects of projects from pre-construction stage through to completion, ensuring they are delivered on budget, on time, and to the highest standard.
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in managing the commercial aspects of projects from tender stage through to final account. You'll ensure that costs are accurately forecasted and controlled while supporting operational teams in delivering value-driven projects safely and efficiently.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in construction or engineering-related QS work to grow within a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare accurate cost plans, budgets, and forecasts for a range of engineering projects
* Support tender submissions and pre-contract commercial strategy
* Manage project costs and maximise value through effective procurement and change control
* Draft and manage subcontracts, including negotiating terms and handling valuations
* Conduct site visits to monitor progress and align financial reporting with real-time performance
* Submit interim valuations and applications for payment
* Identify variations, assess risks, and support project teams with commercial decisions
* Prepare final accounts and close projects commercially
* Maintain strong communication with clients, suppliers, and site teams
Requirements:
* Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor in construction, civil engineering, or mechanical services & district heating
* HNC/HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
* Strong understanding of NEC and JCT contracts
* Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills
* Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel) and quantity surveying software
* Confident communicator and team player
* Full UK driving licence – willingness to travel to site as required
