Responsibilities

* Be a member of the specialist gastro-intestinal disorders dietetic team
* Provide specialist dietetic support to patients under the gastroenterology, general surgery and colorectal specialities at Queen Elizabeth Hospital
* Have a dietetic caseload including inpatients and outpatients
* Attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings with the inflammatory bowel disease team and ward teams
* To facilitate multidisciplinary team meetings and best interest meetings to achieve the best clinical outcomes for our patients
* To line manage other dietitians and dietetic assistants
* To participate in the development of the service
* To contribute to the training of student dietitians on clinical placement
* Employees based at QEHB will be expected to demonstrate a flexible working approach and move across sites as required to deliver care based on organisational and service need
* To participate in 7 day working when appropriate service delivery allows and commences


Main duties of the job

* The post holder will be responsible for and lead on the provision and requirements of the gastroenterology and surgical dietetic service for inpatients and outpatients at QEHB. They will also be an integral member of the multidisciplinary and dietetic teams for the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust
* The post holder will provide dietetic inpatient support to the gastroenterology ward and surgical wards at QEHB
* The post holder must demonstrate a high level of knowledge, skills and experience as an independent practitioner
* To deliver a high quality, evidence-based Nutrition and Dietetic service to the specialist areas of gastroenterology and colorectal surgery
* To act autonomously and competently in the management of an adult caseload with a varying degree of nutritional complexity, including managing regional and out of region home tube feeding patients
* To act as an expert nutritional resource within the specialist areas of gastroenterology and colorectal surgery, in order to educate and train dietetic students and other health professionals within the Trust
* To contribute to the Trusts clinical governance programme by taking a lead within a specialist area for audit, development and implementation of evidence-based guidelines/protocols and continuing professional development
* To be responsible for training, teaching, preceptorship and clinical supervision of junior staff and students
