Please note a full application including a covering letter detailing your experience alongside a CV which is required for applications to be considered. Please be advised applications made without providing a cover letter will not be accepted. About the role We’re looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Assessments Officer to join our Assessments and Awards Management Team within the newly designed Student and Academic Services (SAS) Directorate. This role focuses primarily on delivering high-quality support for the University’s assessment, progression, and award processes. You will be a key contributor to the planning, coordination and delivery of the University’s Board of Examiners cycle ensuring accurate assessment mark entry, supporting module ratification, preparing progression and award outcomes, and facilitating the timely release of student results. You will play a central role in ensuring these critical activities are delivered accurately, securely, and in full alignment with institutional requirements. From managing complex assessment data and maintaining high-integrity records to advising academic colleagues and supporting the smooth operation of Board of Examiners meetings, your work will directly support the maintenance of academic standards and the success of our students. While your core responsibilities will centre on assessment, progression and awards, you will also contribute to wider assessment tasks across the team when required—supporting activities such as examinations, exceptional circumstances processes and certification to ensure seamless operations across the academic cycle. If you are highly organised, confident in working with data and regulations, and motivated by delivering excellent student assessment services, we would be pleased to hear from you. Who are we looking for? We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused individual with experience coordinating complex, deadline-driven processes ideally within a higher education or similarly regulated environment. You will bring strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret and apply assessment regulations to calculate progression and award outcomes with accuracy and confidence. We’re seeking someone who combines excellent organisational abilities with a calm, professional, and empathetic approach. You will be able to support students sensitively during key assessment points, while maintaining clear boundaries and upholding institutional and regulatory standards. Your ability to manage competing priorities, remain solutions-focused and maintain high levels of accuracy under pressure will be essential. You will have strong communication and problem-solving skills, with confidence using student record systems or similar databases and working with large datasets. A strong customer-service ethos and the ability to build positive working relationships with academics, students and external stakeholders are vital. You’ll bring a flexible, team-oriented approach and demonstrate sound judgement, integrity, and a commitment to continuous improvement in assessment practices. How will you work? We are committed to supporting flexible methods of working wherever possible, and this role is Flexible and connected (Professional Services). Campus attendance will vary on a day-to-day basis and throughout the year but must purposefully align to the needs of our students, staff, and stakeholders. It is expected that there will be a relatively even balance between time spent on and off campus each week on a rota basis; but in most cases the work location will be determined by the service required or the tasks/activities being undertaken and influenced by the University assessment and examination schedules.
