The People Advisor plays a central role in shaping a positive, consistent and engaging colleague experience across the organisation. Providing high quality generalist HR support, this role ensures colleagues feel supported, treated fairly and informed throughout the full colleague lifecycle.
By combining strong HR fundamentals with a clear focus on engagement, wellbeing and professional standards, the People Advisor helps create an environment where colleagues can perform at their best. The role works closely with managers and the wider People Team to deliver people initiatives, high‑quality HR services and effective frontline employee relations support.
What we want you to do
* Process all transactional activity accurately, including contract changes and references, ensuring alignment to internal processes and governance frameworks.
* First line management of the People Team inbox, ensuring all queries are responded to in a timely manner, delegating and escalating as required.
* Support with the end to end management of first line ER cases, including documentation, outcome letters, and hearings, ensuring fair, consistent and legally compliant practice.
* Ownership of the offboarding process, ensuring exit interviews are completed and all relevant steps are taken when a colleague resigns.
* Provide support in the delivery of key annual people initiatives including statutory compliance checks, holiday trading, My Performance Reviews and Star Bonus as and when required.
* Support with the development, coordination and delivery of colleague events including the Leadership and Colleague Connect session, workplace parties and similar events that inspire our team, celebrate success, and drive positive engagement.
* Support the delivery of wellbeing programs and EDI initiatives, promoting resources and tracking participation.
* Identify themes from feedback, exit interviews, and engagement data to inform continuous improvement and enhance colleague satisfaction.
* Work closely with senior sponsors to support forums focusing on Voice, EDI, Wellbeing, and Giving Back, ensuring clear communication and engagement to make a meaningful impact.
* Act as overflow support for recruitment and onboarding activities, providing cover for annual leave and peak work volumes.
* Ensure activity complies with all regulatory standards, employment legislation, GDPR and quality policies.
What you need to have already done to be right for this role
* Previous experience working in a fast-paced HR generalist role, preferably within a People Services team.
* Previous experience of compliant and accurate administration aligned to the colleague lifecycle, meticulous with documentation and workflow discipline.
* Previous experience of delivering colleague engagement and workplace experience activities that deliver improved employee engagement metrics.
* Good working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice with an ability to balance risk with practicality.
* Good working knowledge of People systems and how best to use these in the administration of people activities.
* IT literate with knowledge of the effective use of Microsoft (Outlook, Word, Excel PowerPoint); essential.

* Ability to operate with autonomy, manages priorities across multiple stakeholders, and meets deadlines.
Qualifications and other requirements
* Qualifications: CIPD Level 5 or working towards, advantageous.
* Location: within commuting distance of Sale, Manchester and ability to travel to other offices if required.
