The Platform Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for operating and maintaining the infrastructure platforms hosted within our co-located data centre environment, alongside supporting connected Azure services.
This role focuses on the day to day maintenance, reliability, performance and security of virtualised hosting platforms that deliver customer facing applications. You will help to take ownership of core infrastructure including virtualisation, networking, backup and recovery, remote application delivery and observability tooling.
While Azure forms part of the wider platform strategy, the primary responsibility of this role is managing and improving our co-located hosting estate, ensuring stable and secure operation while contributing to longer term platform modernisation.
Working closely with Platform Engineering, SRE, Security and Development teams, you will help ensure applications are delivered reliably and consistently across environments.
What are you responsible for?
•Operate and maintain infrastructure within the co-located data centre environment.
•Administer and support VMware and Hyper-V virtualisation platforms.
•Manage backups and recovery using Veeam Backup & Replication, including restore testing.
•Support application delivery through Remote Desktop Services (RDS) and Remote Desktop Web Access.
•Configure and troubleshoot VPN connectivity and secure remote access.
•Administer and support Cisco firewall environments.
•Monitor platform health and performance using Grafana and Pulseway.
•Support infrastructure hosting applications utilising Oracle databases.
•Work with data centre providers on hardware and connectivity activities.
•Investigate incidents, resolve infrastructure issues, and implement improvements.
• Automate routine operational tasks where appropriate.
•Support hybrid connectivity and services integrated with Microsoft Azure.
•Ensure platforms meet security, compliance, and operational standards.
Skills, Knowledge, Experience:
•Experience supporting production infrastructure within a co-located or data centre hosting environment.
•Strong administration experience with VMware virtualisation platforms.
•Experience supporting Microsoft Hyper-V environments.
•Hands-on experience with Veeam Backup & Replication including backup monitoring and restore operations.
•Experience supporting Windows Server environments.
•Knowledge of Remote Desktop Services (RDS) and Remote Desktop Web Access.
•Experience configuring and troubleshooting VPN connectivity.
•Familiarity with enterprise firewall technologies, ideally Cisco.
•Experience using monitoring or observability tools such as Grafana.
•Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, networking, and hosted platforms.
•Citrix administration or support experience.
•Familiarity with Oracle database environments.
•Exposure to Microsoft Azure infrastructure services.
•PowerShell or scripting experience for automation.
•Experience working within hybrid cloud environments.
