St Elizabeth Hospice continues to driveforward innovation and development of services, both in the Ipswich and EastSuffolk area and further up the coast to the Great Yarmouth and Waveneyarea. In 2019 NHS Norfolk and Waveney IntegratedCare Board awarded the specialist palliative and end of life care contract toEast Coast Community Healthcare. The contract includes a specialistpalliative care service which will be delivered in partnership with StElizabeth Hospice. Our most recentCare Quality Commission report rated the hospice as Outstanding.
Main duties of the job
We arelooking for an experienced Spiritual Care Worker with a Theologicalqualification towork within the Therapy Team to provide spiritual, religious and emotionalsupport to patients, relatives and carers in various settings - Community, Community Care Units, outpatients,and within our In-Patient Units. This is a chance to make a real difference topeoples lives.
To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrateknowledge and experience inmulti-faith issues and conducting religious and non-religious servicesaccording to the wishes of the patient and/or family.

In March 2023, St Elizabeth Hospicemerged with East Coast Hospice to form St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice, withall service provision in Great Yarmouth and Waveney coming under the StElizabeth East Coast Hospice name.

JOBSUMMARY
To work with themulti-professional team providing spiritual and pastoral care to patients andfamilies. To work within the Emotional & Spiritual Wellbeing Team to manageand support referrals. To be able to support spiritual care/emotional wellbeingvolunteers. Working within the team to provide cover forSpiritual Care including some weekend working.

SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES
To work within the Therapy Team to provide spiritual, religious andemotional support to patients, relatives and carers in various settingsoutpatients, community, In-Patient Unit and Community Care Units.
Attend the weekly referrals meeting with the Emotional WellbeingTeam.
To liaise closely with all of the Emotional & SpiritualWellbeing team to manage referrals.
To work as the duty therapist providing telephone support, managingtelephone enquiries, triaging and organising referrals.
To provide emotional/spiritual support to the In-Patient Unit.
Ensure patient telephone enquiries are dealt with in a timely,professional manner.
Ensure timely, accurate documentation of patient records viaelectronic system.
To organise and participate in the provision of faith rituals.
To plan, organise and participate in HospiceRemembrance Services in conjunction with the communication/fundraising team.
To establish and maintain close links with faith leaders andorganizations representing the multi-faith community.
PASTORALRESPONSIBILITIES
To be alongside and listen.
To help people to explore their emotions.
To support people through serious illness, loss, change anddeath.
To embrace all faith groups including working with otherfaith group leaders.
PRIESTLYRESPONSIBILITIES
To pray with and read scriptures.
Support communion.
Support with preparation for funeral service and follow up,traditional services (Christian and other faiths), Remembrance Services(religious and non-religious), community services.
MANAGEMENTRESPONSIBILITIES
To supervise and support the work of the Spiritual Care volunteersacting as the line manager if required.
EDUCATIONALRESPONSIBILITIES
To promote knowledge and awareness of faith and spiritualcare, both externally and internally.
To maintain an awareness of relevant research anddevelopment in Chaplaincy practice and to maintain best practice in theHospice.
To participate in the Hospice education programme.
To give feedback from attended education programmes/studydays to the multi-professional team.
PERSONALDEVELOPMENT
To devise with the Emotional Wellbeing Team Leader a personaldevelopment plan in line with the Hospice objectives and personal needs.
To maintain and increase personal professional skills.
ORGANISATIONALRESPONSIBILITIES
To work at all times within the policies and guidelines ofthe Hospice.
To uphold the hospice and individual team values at alltimes.
To ensure effective use of resources.
To attend relevant meetings, providing effectivecommunication.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Theological qualification.
* Adult teaching qualification.
* Counselling qualification.
Experience
* In providing spiritual and pastoral care.
* In multi-faith issues and conducting religious and non-religious services according to the wishes of the patient and/or family.
* Knowledge of NHS NICE and other national guidance and directives on delivering spiritual care.
* Knowledge and membership of the Association of Hospice and Palliative Care Chaplains (AHPCC).
* Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.
Specific Skills
* Able to establish links with other faith communities and good working relations with a multi-disciplinary team.
* Ability to identify spiritual care needs and write up individual spiritual care plans to meet assessed needs.
* Ability to use Microsoft packages and Outlook or willingness to undertake training.
* Able to use own vehicle to travel to various sites and community visits.
