THE EMPLOYER IS: NATIONAL MUSEUMS NINational Museums NI is a leading cultural institution and is responsible for ensuring that its significant collection is developed, cared for and accessible to the widest possible audience.We care for, develop and provide access to the National Collection of 1.4 million objects which are multidisciplinary, diverse and span all time periods, referencing Northern Ireland within and to the wider world.The Front of House Assistant will assist in the provision of an efficient and effective information giving, ticketing and retail sales service to the users of the museum in a range of areas including the visitor information centre, museum admission points and shops.They will provide all visitors a high quality experience, creating a welcoming atmosphere and providing a high standard of customer care.
Responsibilities
* To provide a front line welcome and information service to all museum visitors both in person and by phone, including providing accurate and up-to date information on the museum’s facilities, exhibits, collections, and events programmes.
* To work on an individual basis or as part of a team as required.
* To actively promote National Museums NI venues and membership scheme.
* To maintain the general cleanliness and tidiness of the areas of work.
* To provide mobility aids to visitors, following policies and procedures as required.
* To complete regular health & safety checks as part of pre-opening and closing procedures to visitors and as required.
* To wear uniform in accordance with the National Museums NI uniform policy.
* To ensure the safety of visitors and of other employees by strict adherence to all relevant policies and procedures, including Emergency Evacuation procedures, the Health and Safety Policy and the Safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk Policy.
* To provide front of house support to the museum’s programme of corporate and special events.
* To act as Deputy Fire Marshall on a rostered basis in line with Fire Evacuation procedures.
* Support the efficient day to day running of the shop including opening/closing procedures.
* To operate the EPOS system, adhering to the operating standards, and provide an efficient and effective sales service to visitors. Along with following museum cash handling procedures and retail operating procedures.
* Maintain high standards on the shop floor through effective visual merchandising, stock replenishment and housekeeping, to enhance customer experience and maximise sales.
* To ensure a high level of product knowledge to best engage with visitors.
* To support the processing and operational delivery of e-commerce.
* To participate in all stock control and stock checks.
* To promote Gift Aid where applicable.
* Process museum admission and activity bookings in accordance with relevant GDPR requirements.
* To deal with customer comments and concerns in accordance with the museum’s policy.
* To act as a co-ordination point for Lost Property and to deal with any issues in accordance with the museums policy.
* To promote and collect customer information, such as data capture and understand its importance.
Skills and Qualifications
* Able to demonstrate enthusiasm and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service to a wide and diverse range of people.
* Experience of working within a team, and as an individual within a team, demonstrating a high level of self-motivation.
* Availability to work flexible hours within a rota system including weekends, evenings and bank holidays.
* Experience of utilising a computerised visitor admissions or computerised retail till system.
* Experience of working within a museum, heritage site or other visitor attraction.
* Have qualifications, skills or experience of particular use to the Museum e.g. foreign language(s), sign language.
