Job overview
An enthusiastic dietitian is required to join a friendly and supportive team at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, on the edge of the Lake District. The role is suitable for newly qualified or recently qualified dietitians wishing to develop skills and knowledge across a range of inpatient and outpatient settings. The post requires HCPC registration and may involve travel to other sites within the Trust.
Main duties
* Work as part of a site‑based dietitian team with support from experienced professionals.
* Provide inpatient dietetic care across medical, surgical, orthopaedics, oncology, and stroke management units.
* Contribute to outpatient clinics covering a broad range of specialties.
* Deliver nutritional support, enteral feeding, and gastroenterology care.
* Possibility of paediatric and other specialist dietetic experience where appropriate.
* Participate in the department’s approved training program for student dietitians.
* Use IT facilities to maintain electronic patient records and support personal development.
Responsibilities & expectations
* Assess patients, observe and evaluate nutritional status.
* Report findings and formulate dietetic plans.
* Work independently with guidance from senior colleagues.
* Collaborate across professions and agencies to achieve individual patient outcomes.

Person specification – Education & qualifications
* Commitment to achieve student training qualifications within 2 years of starting the post.
* Relevant dietetic courses (other than the core HCPC‑requiring dietetic course).
* Member of the British Dietetic Association.
Experience
* Comprehensive experience at undergraduate or Band 5 level in core dietetics competencies.
* Knowledge of current best practice in dietetics.
* Recent acute setting dietetic experience.
Skills and knowledge
* Assessment, observation, evaluation and reporting skills.
* Teamworking ability.
* Excellent written and oral communication in English.
* Capacity to work independently with guidance when required.
* Basic knowledge of health and social care legislation and guidelines.
* Understanding of team dynamics and ability to build effective relationships.
* Experience with electronic patient record systems.
* Collaborative working across professions and agencies.
* Willingness to work flexibly to meet patient care demands.
