Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 17:00 (can be flexible)
Rate of Pay: £15.00 £17.00 per hour (dependent on experience and interview performance) paid weekly or monthly via PAYE
Role Overview
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Assistant to support the delivery of a major new office development on the secure AWE Aldermaston site. Working under the Site Environmental Manager / Environmental Advisor, you will play a key role in ensuring the project meets all environmental compliance requirements, minimises impact on the local environment, and achieves sustainability targets set by the client and principal contractor.
This is a hands-on site-based role ideal for someone early in their environmental career or with construction-site experience who is looking for long-term stability and potential permanent employment with a Tier 1 contractor.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation, monitoring and review of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and Environmental Management System (EMS).
Carry out daily/weekly site environmental inspections, audits and compliance checks (dust, noise, vibration, water quality, waste, fuel storage, etc.).
Support the management of waste streams, including segregation, recycling targets, duty-of-care documentation and waste transfer notes.
Monitor and report on environmental incidents, near-misses and non-conformances; help with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
Assist with ecological and biodiversity measures (e.g. protected species, habitat protection, tree protection fencing).
Maintain accurate environmental records, registers and monthly reporting data.
Promote environmental awareness through toolbox talks, inductions and notice boards.
Liaise with subcontractors, site management team and client environmental representatives.
Essential Requirements
Previous experience in education (open to grads) or an environmental support or assistant role (construction, civil engineering or similar).
Sound working knowledge of UK environmental legislation and guidance relevant to construction (e.g. Environmental Protection Act, Water Resources Act, Waste Regulations, Control of Pollution Act).
Right to work in the UK.
Good standard of IT literacy (Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word).
Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Full UK driving licence (beneficial but not essential).
