Overview
The Finance Director is responsible for delivering the financial strategy, planning, and performance of the Group. This is a very hands on role which will play a critical part in supporting sustainable growth, driving commercial decision-making, maintaining strong financial controls, and ensuring the business operates efficiently and profitably.
Working closely with the senior leadership team, the Finance Director will provide strategic financial guidance while being responsible for all day-to-day financial operations across the Group.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
* Develop and implement the Group’s financial strategy to support business growth and long-term objectives.
* Act as a key strategic advisor to the Managing Director and senior leadership team.
* Provide commercial insight and financial analysis to support decision-making across all business functions.
* Support the evaluation of new business opportunities, partnerships, investments, and acquisitions.
Financial Planning & Analysis
* Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes.
* Monitor financial performance against budgets and targets, identifying risks and opportunities.
* Deliver monthly management accounts, board reports, and financial performance reviews.
* Provide detailed analysis and recommendations to improve profitability, cash flow, and operational efficiency.
Financial Control & Governance
* Maintain robust financial controls, policies, and procedures across the Group.
* Ensure compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and tax requirements.
* Manage financial risk, internal controls, and corporate governance processes.
* Oversee external audits and maintain strong relationships with auditors, banks, and professional advisors.
Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
* Monitor and optimise cash flow, working capital, and liquidity across the business.
* Oversee banking relationships, funding requirements, and financial facilities.
* Ensure effective management of debtors, creditors, inventory investment, and cash forecasting.
Operational Finance
* Lead all accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, treasury, and financial reporting.
* Support purchasing, demand planning, inventory management, and operational decision-making through financial insight.
* Work closely with Operations, E-Commerce, B2B Sales, and Customer Service teams to improve financial performance and efficiency.
* Drive continuous improvement of financial systems, processes, and reporting capabilities.
Commercial & Business Partnering
* Partner with department leaders to establish and monitor KPIs.
* Support contract negotiations, pricing strategies, and commercial agreements.
* Identify opportunities to improve margins, reduce costs, and increase revenue.
* Provide financial modelling and scenario planning to support strategic initiatives.
Team Leadership
* Lead, develop, and mentor the finance team.
* Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
* Ensure the finance function is equipped to support the Group’s ongoing growth and expansion.
Skills & Qualifications
* Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role, ideally as Finance Director, Financial Controller, or Head of Finance.
* Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence strategic decision-making.
* Experience in fast-growing, entrepreneurial, retail, e-commerce, distribution, or sports-related businesses is advantageous.
* Excellent financial planning, forecasting, and analytical skills.
* Strong understanding of financial controls, compliance, and risk management.
* Experience managing cash flow, working capital, and business performance reporting.
* Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial management systems.
* Experience with Xero, Shopify, Salesforce, Power BI, or similar business systems is desirable.
* Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambitious, and evolving business environment.
