Job Overview
Permanent/fixed term Band 2 Health Care Support Worker roles within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward at Glan Clwyd. The role is part of the multidisciplinary team and will deliver care under the supervision of a registered health care professional.
* Work as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients with support and supervision from a registered health care professional.
* Undertake personal care activities and tasks as delegated by a registered health care professional, in accordance with HEIW All Wales Guidelines for Delegation.
* Ensure the registered health care professional is regularly updated on the patient’s condition and improvement or deterioration.
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the healthcare setting and appropriate storage of stock items.
* Deliver the role in accordance with Health Board values and the Code of Conduct for HCSWs in Wales.
Main duties of the job
Assist the registered nurse or practitioner to deliver high‑standard holistic patient care, ensuring patient dignity and equality at all times.
Incorporate the fundamentals of care into daily practice, providing high quality service for patients and clients. Perform duties within the plan of care delegated by a qualified practitioner, for which specific training and assessment has been completed.
Assist patients with dietary and hydration needs, personal hygiene, and maintain high standards of cleanliness and infection prevention. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh or English speakers are welcome to apply.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Level 2 in care or the ability to undertake a period of induction and on‑the‑job training covering theoretical knowledge of care and a range of work‑related procedures, including completion of a competency‑based workbook equivalent to a Level 2 Vocational Qualification.
* Level 2 Vocational Qualification in a relevant health‑care subject (desirable).
Experience
* Experience working as part of a team (essential).
* Previous experience working with people in a caring capacity (desirable).
Skills and Attributes
* Good communication skills – verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and sensitively.
* Ability to keep calm in stressful situations.
* Demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach.
* Organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise own workload efficiently.
* Welsh language skills at levels 1‑5 in understanding, speaking, reading and writing (desirable).
