Stroke and Neuro Occupational Therapist

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
* Providing specialist occupational therapy assessment and treatment to patients in the community with Stroke and with a variety of complex neurological needs, taking into consideration the patient's physical/cognitive/perceptual skills to identify the patient's abilities and areas of difficulty.
* Taking a role in the leadership of junior staff and support assistants, through supervision, training and appraisal.
* Achieving and maintaining quality care through the delivery of evidence based practice and adherence with national guidelines.
* Working as part of the multidisciplinary team across the Stroke and Neurology pathway liaising and supporting our specialist nurses in the community as required.
There is a well‑established appraisal system and a commitment to support staff to develop leadership and clinical skills through regular supervision, our structured in‑service programme and internal and external training opportunities.

To be a competent and strong Occupational Therapist with appetite to work in a fast‑paced environment.
You will need strong clinical reasoning skills alongside effective communication to be able to manage difficult situations.

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period.
Starting with Us
NELFT places great importance on new starters being properly welcomed into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will also have the opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend several drop‑in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing, and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,714 to a maximum of £5,941 p.a. pro rata for part time).
Job responsibilities
Providing specialist occupational therapy assessment and treatment to patients in the community with Stroke and with a variety of complex neurological needs, taking into consideration the patients physical/cognitive/perceptual skills to identify the patients abilities and areas of difficulty.
Provision of equipment to promote independence and improve or maintain quality of life.
Knowledge of referral and signposting to other services to meet patient's care needs.
You will take a role in the leadership of junior staff and rehab support workers, through supervision, training and appraisal whilst also being involved in the on‑going development of the service.

Person Specification
* Current HCPC registration
* Ability to complete neuro assessments/ treatments
* Experience in use of standardised OT cognitive assessments
* Supervision of junior staff
* Minimum of 3 years post stroke/ Neuro experience
* NHS experience
* Experience working in community
* Ability to commute to remote places and around London Borough of Redbridge efficiently
