This is a full‑time post for a Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine. Sub‑specialist skills and interests in areas such as Clinical Leadership, Medical Education and Research will be encouraged. The role involves working with other members of the acute medicine team and colleagues at Worcestershire Royal Hospital as part of a 10.5 WTE Consultant Acute Physicians group to provide high quality, compassionate and holistic care in the Same‑Day Emergency Care, Acute Medical Unit, Emergency Department and Medical Short Stay Unit. Participation in GIM on call is optional but weekend cover is a requirement. 2 DCCs may be changed to specialist clinic activity if agreed.
Responsibilities
The post-holder will:
* Provide a clinical service to patients of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners.
* Attend multidisciplinary meetings and work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality clinical care.
* Provide support to the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely care and patient flow.
* Offer consultation and advisory services to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care.
* Attend cross‑country and cross‑site meetings and collaborate with colleagues to meet the Trust’s objectives.
* Participate in the on‑call rota, attending hospital sites to review patients when clinically necessary and providing weekend on‑call duties.
* Attend the hospital to undertake patient reviews during weekend on‑call duties.
Teaching Experience
Essential
* Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines, including undergraduates and postgraduates.
Desirable
* Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
Research Experience
Essential
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
* An awareness of current speciality‑specific developments and initiatives.
Desirable
* Publications in relevant peer‑reviewed journals in the last five years.
* Evidence of having undertaken original research.
Qualifications
Essential
* Full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise.
* Success in the Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent.
* MRCP or equivalent.
Desirable
* Higher degree.
* Entry on specialist register in General (Internal) Medicine or Acute Medicine (or CCT expected within six months of interview date).
Experience
Essential
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in General (Internal) Medicine or Acute Medicine.
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within the specialty.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
Desirable
* Expertise in a sub‑speciality.
