Main Objectives

The Operations Manager will direct all aspects of the operations within our Pulborough and Southwater facilities in the UK. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Planning, Stores, Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, New Product Introduction (NPI), and Facilities planning and maintenance in a high mix, low volume manufacturing environment. This role will develop and implement plans to effectively utilize materials, labor, and equipment to ensure that all parts, assemblies, and final products are produced on schedule and according to established parameters. The role requires a drive for continuous improvement and strong governance of process throughout operations. Good commercial negotiation and decision-making skills are essential. You will also work with colleagues at other sites to share strategic initiatives, vision, and best practices.

As a member of Pulborough’s Executive Leadership Team, you will be involved in the creation and successful execution of the site’s strategic objectives, ensuring that they are aligned to the vision of the corporate leadership. The Operations Manager will drive a collaborative, safe, performance-based culture rooted in Lean principles.

Key Responsibilities

1. Define site goals, objectives, and strategic plans based on corporate strategic goals.
2. Plan, direct and co-ordinate activities and resources to achieve optimum efficiency, economy of operations, profitability and operational excellence. Ensure that we have the flexibility and agility necessary to cope with changes in the market requirements.
3. Acting as the voice and champion of the customer’s requirements, leading the business to ensure on time delivery of products that meet the expectations of quality, with the effective prisonisations of workload.
4. As part of the site Executive Management Team ensure that all parties are informed of operational performance, objectives and any mission critical issues that could impact the business or customers
5. Act as conduit between different functions and promoting the importance of cross functional communication.
6. Establish key performance indicators and operational goals and objectives in support of sites business objectives. Monitor and report production performance/manufacturing costs, quality and performance against targets, developing Dashboards and Action Plans as required.
7. Provide a leadership support function to the Teams within Operations, motivating all staff to achieve Operational goals within the local and global organisation.
8. Identify skills gaps and development opportunities, initiate necessary training and coach employees and managers to maximise organisational performance.
9. Develop and maintain a culture of high employee engagement and empowerment to boost morale, motivation and job satisfaction, so that employees can be accountable for their contribution to overall performance.
10. Drive continuous process improvements through lean/six sigma methodologies and evaluate and develop improvement techniques for the control of operations, quality, reliability and safety.
11. Determine and manage budgets and costs effectively to achieve the performance goals of the organisation.
12. Liaison with external parties on matters relating to the procurement of services and materials for the Company’s products.
13. Responsibility for observing and promoting the importance of adhering to the Company’s ISO 9001 Quality, ISO14001 Environmental and Health and Safety management systems and adherence to all statutory requirements in manufacturing.

Education/Experience Required

14. A minimum of 10 years’ experience and a proven successful track record in managing an advanced electronics operation in business-to-business environment.
15. Requires a Batchelors degree and/or considerable company experience with solid business management skills, plus Production Systems processes and tools knowledge.
16. Experience of running a high mix low volume operation, and aware of the complexity of custom product lines.
17. Must have the confidence and presence to be able to engage with our OEM customers directly to maintain their trust.
18. An in-depth knowledge of the mechanics and processes contained within a typical ERP/MRP platform.
19. Technical understanding of the manufacturing and material selection process, Operations Business System, Lean Capabilities Fundamentals (Six Sigma green belt minimum), and a strong grasp of budgetary management.
20. Strong Leadership qualities, motivational with strong communications skills, together with Team building skills and the ability to develop Talent.
21. Energy and passion for driving continuous improvements, with the primary focus on delivering transformational change.
22. Strong working knowledge of labour rules and regulations, as well as the UK laws and regulations related to Operational works.
23. Highly proficient in using Microsoft 365 tools, including Power BI and Excel (advanced user) for data analysis.
