Role profile: Design Engineer
Location: Warwick Midlands (site-based and office work required).
Background
Our client has secured capital grant funding to deliver new bus stop platforms and bus shelters, as well as funding to appoint an engineer to oversee producing a suite of construction drawings. Subject to final costings, the scheme is expected to upgrade approximately 30 to 40 bus stops.
Role purpose
The purpose of this role is to support our client in delivering a key component of its Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) infrastructure. Specifically, the role will focus on leading the design and overseeing the delivery of the Quality Bus Corridor initiative including the production of construction drawings and coordination of activities to enable delivery for new bus stop platforms and bus shelters along priority bus corridors across Warwickshire. Moreover, the role purpose is to provide quality assurance.
Responsibilities
* Produce detailed construction drawings for each bus stop identified for upgrade, applying the client’s standard specification for bus stop platforms and adapting it to location-specific designs while meeting design guidance (e.g. LTN 1/24) and road safety standards.
* Incorporate site-specific considerations such as electrical supply for Real-Time Passenger Information (RTPI) displays and shelter lighting; determine the appropriate type and placement of new bus shelters or bus stop flag poles, along with signage and road markings; assess vegetation clearance and reflect in the drawings.
* Perform site visits across the county, apply professional knowledge, and complement drawings with onsite information. Collaborate with the Engineering Design Services (EDS) team and Transport Planning to ensure successful delivery.
* Engage with stakeholders and represent the client professionally.
Person specification
* Civil engineering qualification or relevant experience
* Proven site experience in infrastructure or transport-related projects
* Proficiency in CAD and general ICT tools
* Understanding of network management
* Experience working on bus infrastructure or similar transport schemes
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including public engagement
* Ability to manage stakeholder relationships
* Experience working within defined budgets and producing cost estimates
Milestones
In accordance with the terms and conditions attached to the external capital grant funding, the bus stop improvement works programme will need to be completed by end of March 2027.
