Working 36.5 hours per week

Be part of a proactive and agile team coordinating activity to support delivery of repairs, maintenance and expansion of Birmingham’s educational estate.

In the Children and Families Directorate at Birmingham City Council, we are looking for a bold and ambitious Principal Officer to join our Capital Team within the Education Infrastructure Service.

This is a pivotal role to maintain and improve the physical state of Birmingham maintained schools and other educational settings, delivering a service that helps children and young people thrive.


About The Role

As Principal Officer in a busy but exciting environment you will be crucial in coordinating activity and liaising between key stakeholders to ensure the needs of the schools are met, reacting to calls for repairs, refurbishment and expansion of physical space.

You will be liaising with multiple internal and external agencies for their expertise to advance effort to get to the right fix and solution for the issue at hand for schools within your geographical patch.

You will navigate through all required approvals and governance processes to ensure the correct authority is in place pre project implementation stage. You will have support staff helping you with administrative tasks, which you will manage, including workload, wellbeing and development.

Communication Is Key, As You Will Need To Keep All Participating Parties Informed Along The Project Journey.

* Internal partners in Legal, Procurement, Finance, and Planning
* Internal service areas, such as Pupil Place Planning, Property Services and Special Education Needs Department


About You

We’re looking for someone that is positive, dynamic and solution based and can handle multiple tasks and projects.

You’ll bring strong leadership and project management skills, with experience of managing budgets, project risks, and programmes.

You’ll have good written skills with experience of producing reports and briefing notes, as well as having good presentational skills.

Communication and stakeholder engagement skills are key, along with the ability to influence and collaborate across disciplines. You’ll be committed to continuous improvement, inclusivity and safeguarding.

With multiple projects and tasks on the go, you will be well organised with experience of great record keeping.

Above all, you will be a great people person that is able to quickly establish rapport and maintain a great working relationship.
