Job summary
Perform unsupervised work including activities that may be demanding and/or non-routine.
Responsible for testing, maintenance and fault finding on all building elements, plant and equipment including but not limited to:
Fire compartmentation
Security, access control, keys and locks
Controlled drug storage units
Roofing
Underground drainage and high pressure jetting
Building structure and partition walling
Flooring and flooring finishes
Glazing
Fixtures, fittings and furniture
Scaffolding
Woodworking machinery
Construction site plant
Transport vehicles
Work under own initiative in order to undertake maintenance, repairs, minor improvements, and capital work across the trust as directed, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.
Main duties of the job
To undertake all work activities as requested by the Building Supervisor/Estates Officer.
To work in accordance with Trust safety rules and procedures at all times.
To be prepared to work in hazardous areas taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.
To actively participate in the operation and control of building planned maintenance schemes.
To actively participate in the operation of facilities labour control scheme, by completion of all paperwork and reports as required by the scheme.
To carry out building surveys and compile data, as and when instructed by line managers.
Carry out all work on equipment as required by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH Regulations, Building and Construction Regulations and the Trust's Safety Policy.
To work overtime to carry out repairs/maintenance not possible during normal hours.
To liaise with the Building Supervisor regarding plant or equipment failures, or deviations to regulations, and to request the supply of goods and/or services as necessary.

Qualifications
Essential
1. City & Guilds of London Institute Craft Certificate in Course 6217-02 Carpentry & Joinery
2. Or,
3. An equivalent qualification such as NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery.
4. Or,
5. BTEC/ONC in Building or Construction Services.
Experience
Essential
6. Completion of a registered apprenticeship or structured training program in Building or Construction for a minimum of 3 years
7. Plus At least 2 years post training, site experience having demonstrated high versatility and flexibility.
8. And
9. Background in Building or Construction installation, alteration, maintenance or repair.
10. And
11. Experience of Building plant, equipment and woodworking machinery.
12. Capable working to deadlines.
13. Reasonably clear and effective in verbal and written communications.
