* Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist
* Service Line: Female Low Secure and Deaf Service
* Professionally Accountable to: Medical Director
* Managerially Responsible to: Hospital Manager
* Location: Cygnet Hospital Bury Dunes
* Ward: Lower West Ward (13 bedded low secure ward for women)
The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required, and will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance with GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines.
Lower West Ward is a 12 bedded low secure ward for women. The service offers individualised assessment, care and treatment of a wide range of mental disorders, alongside complex communication needs and supports both hearing and Deaf women.
Your expertise will drive life-changing treatment, fully supported by a Specialty Doctor and a first-class multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologist and occupational therapist.
There is an opportunity to progress to Medical Director level through management schemes.

Main duties and responsibilities
* Lead on the provision of high quality care to service users admitted to Lower West Ward
* Act as a positive role model towards patients, their families, visitors and staff
* Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans with the multi-disciplinary team
* Assess referrals and undertake mental state examinations
* Undertake investigations, diagnosis and treatment
* Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits
* Lead risk assessment and risk management and embed clinical governance
* Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and attend hearings
* Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and leave approvals
* Maintain patient records
* Maintain regular communications with Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
* Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff and other bodies; maintain appropriate reports
* Attend and contribute to academic meetings and adhere to CPD standards (GMC, Department of Health, Royal College of Psychiatrists)
* Contribute to the Telephone On-call rota (1 in 13 weekdays / 1 in 15 weekends)

We are looking for someone who is…
* Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent)
* Specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status
* Experienced in General Adult Psychiatry / Forensic Psychiatry
* Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and related codes
* Excellent communicator able to interview, assess, treat patients and document clearly
* Committed to continued professional development
* Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* MRCPsych or equivalent
Requirements: An enhanced DBS and reference check; offer of employment subject to clearance.
