Job summary

Assessment of children and young people alongside their families and other professionals involved, to identify the best support for them in a time of mental health difficulty. Working with partner agencies to identify external support as well as internal CAMHS pathways.

Assessments are carried out across our four CAMHS bases, Darlington, Easington, South Durham and North Durham. Travel time and mileage expenses are covered where home to base distance is exceeded.

Nursing candidates must have 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework at the time of applying

Main duties of the job

Join us at an exciting time for the Durham and Darlington CAMHS teams! Our service is undergoing dynamic and exciting service changes in order to improve access for children and young people to CAMHS. The service also aspires to promote patient centred and needs led journeys through the CAMHS service and is looking for professionals to join us to make this a positive experience. Durham & Darlington Single Point of Access (SPA) CAMHS are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic and motivated CAMHS Clinicians to work as part of a fast paced, highly acclaimed multi-disciplinary team. We provide online, telephone and face-to-face evidence-based assessments and access to pathways for children & young people.

You will join the service at a time where a real difference can be made to children and young people's lives. You will be expected to have the necessary skills and experience to undertake comprehensive mental health assessments with children and families. Candidates should be skilled professionals with excellent interdisciplinary working skills and interested in contributing to the development of an innovative service.

Person Specification

Qualification

Essential

1. Current professional registration with appropriate body in healthcare or social work.
2. Evidence of continuing professional development
3. Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area (or work towards, within agreed timescale)
4. 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework.
5. Depending on work area, recognised sign-off mentor (or equivalent) or must be achieved within agreed timescale.
6. Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)

Desirable

7. Leadership or management qualification.
8. CAMHS Degree
9. Certificate in teaching & assessing in clinical practice as appropriate to own profession.
10. Recognised qualification in a specific model of therapy. family therapy, CBT etc.
11. Recognised training in Facilitation of Parenting Groups

Experience

Essential

12. Experience working in a multi-discplinary team
13. Working with young people and families
14. Providing clinical supervision.
15. Quality improvement activities

Desirable

16. Leadership or management experience
17. Significant experience working with children and young people with mental ill health in a community setting.
18. Mentoring students on practice placement experience

Knowledge

Essential

19. Demonstrable knowledge to post-graduate level of evidence-based practice in caring for children and young people in the designated field.
20. Understanding of relevant legislation (. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act).
21. Care Programme Approach and its application in practice.
22. Detailed understanding of Safeguarding andits application in practice.
23. Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.
24. Clinical Governance and its application in practice.
25. Research and development methodology
26. Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment.
