Job description: Childrens Residential Care Manager Job Title: Responsible Individual Childrens Residential Services Location: Birmingham Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent / Part Time Reports to: Director / Senior Leadership Team An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and passionate Ofsted Registered Manager to oversee two childrens residential homes supporting young people aged 818 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a pivotal leadership role for someone committed to creating safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environments where young people can stabilise, develop resilience, and achieve positive outcomes. The Role As Registered Manager, you will have full responsibility for the leadership, operational management, and regulatory compliance of both homes, ensuring consistently high standards of care and positive experiences for every child and young person. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Management Lead the day-to-day operations of two childrens homes in line with Childrens Homes Regulations and Ofsted standards Inspire, motivate, and develop staff teams across both settings to deliver high-quality, child-centred care Promote a positive, open culture focused on therapeutic practice, continuous improvement, and teamwork Support and supervise Deputy Managers and senior staff to ensure consistency and stability across both homes Care Planning & Outcomes Oversee the development, implementation, and review of personalised care plans Create therapeutic, stable environments that support emotional regulation, independence, and positive behaviour Ensure effective transition planning and preparation for adulthood Safeguarding & Compliance Hold overall responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across both homes Maintain full compliance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, and Ofsted frameworks Conduct regular audits, monitoring, and quality assurance to ensure best practice Partnership Working Build strong relationships with external professionals including social workers, education providers, health services, and families Represent the homes at reviews, meetings, and inspections Promote joined-up, holistic care approaches Operational Oversight Manage staffing, rotas, budgets, and resources across both services Ensure accurate record keeping, reporting, and risk management Oversee staff training and professional development, including safeguarding and trauma-informed practice About You Significant experience supporting children and young people with SEMH needs Proven leadership capability, ideally within a multi-site residential setting Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, Childrens Homes Regulations, and Ofsted inspection processes Confident managing complex behaviours and implementing individualised care plans Calm, resilient, and solution-focused with excellent communication skills Strong understanding of trauma-informed and therapeutic care approaches Essential Requirements Minimum 2 years leadership experience in childrens residential care Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent) Sound knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities and regulatory compliance Experience working with children presenting complex SEMH needs Full UK driving licence preferred (due to travel between homes) Additional therapeutic or trauma-informed training is highly desirable.
