Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Nurse to join our Mental Health team at HMP Bure, a category C Prison located in Badersfield, Norwich. In this role you'll be working with a multi-disciplinary team that will support you and help you succeed.

Hours

Monday to Sunday - 08:00 - 18:00. The site currently operates on a 3 week rolling rota, with 4-5 days per week and an expectation to work 1 weekend in 3.

Salary

This position is full time; you’ll receive an annual salary up to £40,211 per annum – depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As a Mental Health Nurse, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

* Work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options
* Undertake medication rounds, and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences
* Assess patients' health needs using an evidence-based framework and be able to risk assess using sound clinical knowledge
* Work with individuals providing advice, support and information and manage a caseload of patients
* Monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects liaising with prescribers as required
* Inspire excellence by forging strong links with our partners and stakeholders

Requirements:

* NMC Registered Mental Health, or Learning Disability Nurse
* Experience of working with patients, face to face, who have complex mental health conditions
* Experience of psychosocial interventions, group work and awareness of substance misuse
* Experience of working with learning disability patients
* Evidence of Continued Professional Development

Although not essential, ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.

Job responsibilities

As a Mental Health Nurse you will work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options. You will undertake medication rounds, and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences and may be distressed. You will assess patients’ health needs using an evidence-based framework and be able to risk assess using sound clinical knowledge, as well as open, maintain, close and take part in reviews of individuals managed under the Prison Suicide and Self Harm risk management system known as Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork (ACCT).

You will contribute to our nursing strategy and vision to provide outstanding evidence-based care to our patients, seek out, listen to and act on their feedback, so that care is personalised and informed by what matters to them. You will work with individuals providing advice, support and information and manage a caseload of patients.

Deliver non-judgemental care that makes a real difference. Monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects liaising with prescribers as required.

Inspire excellence by forging strong links with our partners and stakeholders and providing a service that people can trust, feel safe within, and feel proud of.

Promote best practice, clinical supervision, evidence-based care and continuous quality improvement, embedding a culture of shared learning.

Share knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure safe care, building strong multi-disciplinary teams and supporting each other to do a great job.
