Overview

This is an outstanding opportunity offered within 42 Commando Royal Marines which is both varied and rewarding. Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work in a fun but vital team? Are you a qualified Level 3 Vehicle Mechanic wanting to expand your experience by working on a diverse range of vehicles, plant and associated equipment? We will provide mentoring and training, also fully funded courses - some of which are residential. Does this sound like the role for you?

3 Commando Brigade (3 Cdo Bde) is composed of the Royal Marine Commandos, alongside sailors and soldiers from the Royal Navy, British Army and Airforce, also a strong cohort of civilian staff across 9 Units in the UK. The Commando Force recently underwent transformation and relies on the continuity of a strong expanding civilian work force. Navy Command provides an open, flexible and supportive work environment where Civil Servants and Armed forces personnel work together in a wealth of interesting and challenging jobs in different disciplines, from finance, legal service; personnel and HR, project planning and managing contracts, to media and communications.


Responsibilities

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. As part of a team supporting the Commando Force operational output, the tasks you will carry out include inspection and maintenance of a fleet of vehicles, including plant and associated equipment, diagnosing faults and identifying the best method of repair in line with MOD standards in current technical publications. Training may require attendance at residential courses. Additional out of hours working and detached duty (work away from home base) may be required but will be recompensed appropriately. The post holder will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, diagnosing faults and repairing all vehicles in the fleet. You will need to ensure all vehicle and equipment documentation is completed correctly, up to date by using the relevant MOD database and processes. You will also need to carry out mechanical, structural and electrical repairs in accordance with current regulation and legislation.


Qualifications and requirements

* Full UK Manual driving licence with no more than 6 points.
* NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent, or time served experience.
* Cat C Driving Licence (HGV) with medical required.
* Good IT skills to use computer systems on a daily basis.
* Desirable: Vehicle Examiner Inspection on vehicles - MOT Tester - training will be provided; experience on Plant and Associated equipment; previous military experience in LUEMS and SIM inspection standards & compliance.


Appointment details and benefits

The post does not offer relocation expenses. External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period. Some travel or moves may apply to interviews or roles; travel expenses to interviews are not reimbursed. The MOD recruitment process may include a pay related allowances review. If you move to MOD from another employer you may lose access to childcare vouchers, but other government schemes may be available. Salary and benefits: salary of £25,180 with additional Civil Service Pension contributions (£7,294).
