The post holder will take the lead and be responsible for the project management of the clustered randomised controlled feasibility trial Project HIIT: a school-based intervention for adolescents with intellectual disability/autism targeting physical activity. The Research Fellow will work within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences and will lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of Project HIIT across Special Education Needs Schools throughout Northern Ireland.
About the person:
The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:
1. Degree or equivalent in sport, health, education, or psychology.
2. Have or be about to obtain* a PhD with a focus on physical activity or behaviour change in children with intellectual disabilities/autism (*must be obtained within 3 months of the closing date).
3. Relevant research experience in behaviour change interventions with children with intellectual disability/autism.
4. Experience as a qualitative and quantitative researcher, with ability to plan, conduct, analyse, and disseminate feasibility/RCT studies.
5. Experience designing and conducting process evaluations within physical activity research in schools for children with intellectual disabilities/autism.
6. Proven record of publishing research in the field of intellectual disabilities/autism.
7. Experience managing the planning, delivery, completion, and reporting of behaviour change interventions in this field.
8. Deep knowledge of physical activity research in children with intellectual disabilities/autism, including understanding methodological barriers and enablers of school-based interventions.
9. Experience administering, collecting, analyzing, and reporting physical activity outcomes, specifically accelerometry, in children with intellectual disabilities/autism.
10. Experience assessing body composition and anthropometric measures in children with intellectual disabilities/autism.

This position is available until 31 March 2027. Fixed-term contracts are initially for this period but may be renewed or made permanent depending on funding availability.
