Main Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for interpreting/translating English to/from Spanish to the Hispanic community. This employee is considered essential and must be available to report to work during an emergency or catastrophic event.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Six months of experience providing formal interpretation and translation services between English and a second language. Formal interpretation services may include documented work as a volunteer interpreter for a nonprofit, human service or faith-based organization.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience interpreting and translating between English and a second language on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Linguist or Language Capability classifications or Linguist or Language Capability specialty codes in the Linguistic field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must be certified as a medical interpreter.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The desired candidate should possess the following:
1. Proficient Technical skills (google, Microsoft, Excel)
2. Strong communications skills both written and oral
3. Good time management skills
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
