Data Engineer – Manchester /Hybrid
I’m excited to be partnering once again with one of my long-standing clients as they continue to evolve. I’ve had the pleasure of working with this business for several years, placing across QA and Development and I am exciting to support them as they are investing further in building their Data team. Could you be the one to join them?
This role will take ownership of the data layer across the business’s product suite. You’ll play a key part in designing, operating, and optimising their Azure-based database environment, while also leading on data migration projects and ensuring performance, reliability, and security across production systems.
You’ll work closely with Development, Architecture, Product, and Operations, so it’s ideal if you are someone who enjoys cross-team collaboration as much as deep technical ownership.
Key Responsibilities
* Own and manage Azure SQL and Cosmos DB environments
* Monitor and optimise database performance, proactively resolving bottlenecks
* Lead data migration projects from third-party/client systems into the platform
* Build and maintain data pipelines using Azure Data Factory
* Implement and manage backup, disaster recovery, and retention strategies
* Ensure strong security practices
* Collaborate on schema design and controlled database changes across environments
* Support reporting/BI data stores where required
* Define and maintain data quality checks and validation routines
* Produce clear documentation around data models, migrations, and operational standards
Skills & Experience
* Strong experience as a Data Engineer or DBA in a cloud-first environment
* Hands-on experience with Azure SQL and Cosmos DB (or similar cloud database technologies)
* Proven background in performance tuning and managing production databases
* Experience delivering data migration projects end-to-end
* Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines (Azure Data Factory)
* Understanding of how applications interact with databases
* Comfortable working in a collaborative, product-focused engineering team
* Detail-oriented with a real sense of ownership over data integrity
