Activities
Legal
* Advise internal clients on Health and Safety Law, Engineering Construction Law, Commercial Law, Distribution Law, Environmental Law, and Company Law.
* Develop legal and statutory awareness among staff through seminars, newsletters, and personal contact.
* Audit compliance with statutory obligations, including for joint venture companies, and recommend necessary actions.
* Evaluate and advise on environmental liabilities related to land owned or operated by the company.
* Support Directors and staff with legal advice and negotiate third-party claims.
* Provide timely and practical legal support across the company's operations, engaging external Counsel and experts as needed, and liaising with Group legal to ensure policy compliance.
* Manage external legal advisors for disputes and projects.
* Ensure legal compliance, including HSE, competition law, and company law.
* Coordinate with regulators such as ICO, HSE, and EA.
* Advise the Board on statutory obligations and liabilities.
* Ensure statutory accounts and company secretarial duties are filed correctly and on time.
* Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts related to the business.
* Provide legal advice on capital investment projects, including engineering contracts.
* Interpret legislation affecting the business and implement measures for new legal requirements.
Data Privacy Liaison Officer for TEMUK
* Registered Data Protection Officer with ICO and Data Privacy Liaison Officer.
Company Secretary
* Registered company secretary at Companies House for all UK subsidiaries, responsible for compliance and secretarial services.
* Approved signatory and liaison with Companies House, Compliance Officer, Sanctions Referent, and Ethics Officer.
* Responsible for compliance matters, including anti-bribery, corruption, competition law, and conflicts of interest.
Candidate Profile
* 5-10 years post-qualification experience as a lawyer or solicitor authorized to practice in England & Wales.
* Commercial legal expertise, preferably in the Energy or Chemical industry.
* Experience with environments where Health & Safety are critical, such as hazardous product trade.
* Excellent negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
* Flexible, proactive, objective, and capable of driving change.
* Confident with strong presentation skills and leadership capabilities.
* Excellent problem-solving skills, remaining calm and focused under pressure.
