Job Description Experienced Scienfific Production Manager to lead the end-to-end production, and delivery of scientific journal articles and associated multimedia content. This role will oversee and support a team of Editors, and help shape the future vision and continuous improvement of the production processes and outputs. The role oversees the full journey of content from accepted manuscript to final publication and includes ownership across scientific journals, client programmes, and diverse multimedia outputs including articles, posters, podcasts, and other digital assets. In addition, the Production Manager would have a hands-on role with the design of more complex layouts such as posters and news pieces in Indesign. They would lead by example with their recreation and reimaging of scientific illustrations in Illustrator – translating complex scientific concepts into easy-to-understand visuals. Key responsibilities will include: * Lead and own end-to-end production workflows for journal content, from accepted articles through to final publication and upload. * Own production schedules and capacity planning, ensuring deadlines are met and delivery risks are identified and managed early. * Take full ownership of production quality, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and high visual standards across all outputs. * Lead the design and build of journal templates and online files, ensuring layouts, templates, and formats are clear, modern, and aligned with current design and publishing trends. * Apply advanced InDesign expertise to complex typesetting, creation and maintenance of templates, and the design of layouts from scratch, including posters, infographics, reports, and other programme-specific assets. * Create high-quality scientific illustrations in Adobe Illustrator, translating author figures and concepts into clear, accurate visuals that eectively communicate complex biomedical science. * Drive the production of digital and multimedia content including sponsored articles, reports, newsletters, posters, podcasts, webinars, and other creative assets, working closely with internal teams and clients. * Act as the key production contact for clients, owning timelines, production queries, and delivery expectations. Essential skills and experience: * Significant experience in digital production within scientific, academic, or technical publishing. * Advanced, demonstrable expertise in Adobe InDesign for typesetting, template creation, and complex layout design. * Advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator, with experience creating original scientific illustrations. * Strong eye for design and visual communication, with the ability to translate complex scientific information into clear, accurate layouts and graphics. * Proven experience managing multiple production schedules in a deadline-driven environment. * Experience working in biomedical or life sciences publishing or environments. * Degree in a scientific discipline, or equivalent professional experience working in biomedical science. * Experience working with open access journals desirable
