The below job description outlines the position of: Naval Architect / Technical Project Manager

Typically, this person will oversee and direct new product development programmes within the maritime sector, focusing on the design and development of state-of-the-art, high-speed craft primarily for the Ministry of Defence. These cutting-edge projects utilise advanced technology derived from Formula 1 and Formula 2 racing boat innovations, delivering unparalleled performance and engineering excellence. Reporting to both the Senior Programme Manager and the Design & Development Director, this role is critical in providing technical leadership, strategic planning, and management of platform design initiatives from initial concept through to final delivery.

Duties and responsibilities of the Naval Architect / Technical Project Manager:

• Lead and provide technical management of new product development programmes, ensuring adherence to rigorous performance, safety, and quality standards.
• Manage and inspire interdisciplinary teams of engineers focused on the design and manufacture of small craft under 20 metres, with an emphasis on high-speed, advanced technology platforms.
• Oversee comprehensive platform design activities covering critical areas such as stability, structural integrity, internal and external arrangements, and integrated marine systems.
• Employ initiative and expert judgement to develop innovative and effective solutions to complex design and production challenges.
• Maintain and enhance personal competency in all relevant IT systems and technical tools necessary for effective programme delivery.
• Act with the highest levels of professionalism, integrity, and ethical standards, safeguarding the interests of the business and its stakeholders.
• Foster collaborative relationships across departments and with external partners to ensure smooth project progression and successful outcomes.
• Manage time efficiently to maximise productivity and meet demanding project deadlines.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by senior management to support business growth and innovation.

Health & Safety responsibilities:

• Ensure the working environment remains clean, safe, and compliant with health and safety policies and best practices.
• Verify that all equipment is safe to use, with current electrical testing and appropriate safeguards in place.
• Model safe working behaviour in accordance with company policies, promoting a culture of safety among colleagues.
• Promptly report any health and safety concerns or violations to supervisors or the QHSE Manager.
• Ensure personal protective equipment (PPE) and workwear are correctly worn and regularly inspected for wear or damage.

Qualifications and requirements for the Naval Architect / Technical Project Manager:

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Proven leadership in managing interdisciplinary teams working on small craft (<20m) maritime design and manufacture projects.
• Demonstrable experience in P&L project management, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
• Established track record liaising with relevant regulatory bodies and ensuring compliance with all necessary standards.
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
• Experience designing platforms for small batch series production, particularly in high-performance craft.
• Expertise in structural analysis and advanced marine systems design including hydraulics, electrical systems, fire safety, bilge systems, and more.
