Key Responsibilities
Now is an exciting time to join SYMCA as it grows to deliver a wider range of responsibilities. This includes the new Tram operating company (a wholly owned subsidiary), the Police and Crime Plan, the Investment Zone and Transport for City Regions (£1.45bn) funding for Transport investment including Bus Franchising over the next 6 years.

To support us on this journey we are seeking to appoint to an Assistant Director of Finance for Policing and Reform to join our friendly and growing Finance Team.

This role supports the Policing and Reform directorate which leads on the Police and Crime Plan for South Yorkshire, following the transfer of the powers of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner into SYMCA.

Reporting to SYMCA's Deputy Chief Finance Officer, this role will lead on advising SYMCA's Director – Policing and Reform in relation to Policing responsibilities. The post-holder will have ownership and overall responsibility for SYMCA's Policing and Reform Financial Management function and will provide direct support to the Deputy Chief Finance Officer through the delivery of financial planning, the provision of strategic financial advice and information and the maintenance of a sound financial management framework together with overseeing the core financial processes and final accounts.

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise
You will provide expert and comprehensive financial advice and leadership to ensure funding changes; different models of funding for capital projects at SYMCA; changes at national level which impact on financial processes; and service level changes and priorities, are incorporated into financial planning and delivery.

A key responsibility will be to drive the delivery of a high quality, customer focused and efficient Financial Management service that supports SYMCA in achieving its overall strategic objectives and delivery of Strategy.

You will directly manage the Policing and Reform finance team, and ensure staff across the directorate receive leadership training, professional development, and succession planning support to create a resilient and future-ready team. You will work closely with colleagues in the Policing and Reform Directorate, forming part of the Senior Leadership team, as well as with South Yorkshire Police.
