Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Acute Care Inpatient Psychiatry We have 2 adult wards in the Ablett Unit: 10 beds for females (Dinas Female) and 10 beds for males (Dinas Male), plus a s136 suite. The Home Treatment Team is also based in the Ablett Unit. The unit also hosts an 8‑bed male locked rehabilitation ward (Cynnydd) and a 10‑bed Older Persons’ functional ward (Tegid).
Responsibilities
Serve as the treating consultant alongside the other Approved Clinician for inpatients admitted to Dinas Male, Dinas Female wards, and the Home Treatment Team.
Provide responsible clinician oversight for patients admitted under the Mental Health Act and supervise junior doctors attached to the post.
Deliver patient‑centred recovery‑based care in line with the Mental Health Measure (Wales) 2010 and local policies.
Co‑ordinate admissions and discharges, working with community mental health teams (CMHTs), psychiatric liaison services, and local authorities to ensure continuity of care and robust discharge planning.
Lead the multidisciplinary team, offering medical leadership and consultation.
Participate in bed‑management processes and liaise with sector consultants and CMHTs to maintain flexibility in bed allocation.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential criteria:
MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable criteria:
Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Welsh AC Approval.
Eligibility Essential criteria:
Fully registered with the GMC, licence to practise at the time of appointment.
On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT.
Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
Desirable criteria:
In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Clinical Skills Essential criteria:
Evidence of training in core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry.
Desirable criteria:
Experience leading a multi‑disciplinary team.
Experience of community psychiatric practice.
