Long-Term Teachers are currently seeking an experienced and adaptable Supply Teacher to work in a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Somerset, catering for students aged 10 - 16. This is a unique opportunity to make a real impact on young lives within a small, nurturing educational environment. While a specialism in Science is preferred, experienced teachers from other disciplines are also encouraged to apply.
About the role:
This is a supply teaching role within a high-support, therapeutic school setting that offers tailored learning pathways to students with SEMH needs. You will be responsible for delivering engaging, differentiated lessons to small groups of students, many of whom may present with complex behaviours and additional needs.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent classroom management, emotional intelligence, and the ability to quickly form positive, professional relationships with students. You’ll be supported by a collaborative and skilled multidisciplinary team who share a commitment to every student’s personal and academic growth.
Key responsibilities:
* Deliver engaging, student-centred lessons across KS3/KS4
* Support students in managing their emotions and behaviours positively
* Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
* Collaborate with staff and specialists to meet individual student needs
* Model resilience, empathy, and consistent boundaries
Requirements:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent would be highly advantageous
* Experience teaching students with SEMH, SEND, or in alternative provision is advantageous
* Subject specialism in Science is desirable but not essential
* Strong interpersonal skills and a reflective, resilient approach to behaviour management
* Ability to remain calm under pressure and promote positive student engagement
