Overview
Our client is a Local Authority based in Essex, and they are seeking an experienced Development Team Manager to join them for a contract role within their Development Management planning team.
Responsibilities
* Support the Assistant Director of Planning and manage a hard‑working team of Development Management Planners, Planning Enforcement Officers, Land Charges and Planning Technical Support staff.
* Produce service plans, budgets and monitoring, including within agreed limits cost centre management responsibilities.
* Recruit staff and ensure that staff development plans are agreed, and appraisals against those plans are undertaken.
* Identify own and staff development and training needs.
* Input into corporate projects as required.
* Deputise for the Assistant Director of Development Services if required.
* Undertake, manage and represent the Council at external meetings (including within professional forums), briefings, presentations, tribunals, public inquiries, engagement work and consultation with stakeholders, including the community.
Qualifications
* Recent management experience within Planning is essential, ideally gained from a local authority.
* Degree level education in a related subject or equivalent relevant experience and knowledge.
* Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
Contract
This role is inside IR35 and the rate offered is £70/hr Umbrella. It will initially be a 3-6 month contract. Our client offers hybrid working, with 2 days a week being based in the office and the rest home working.
