Job Purpose / Overview The Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for the effective engineering and maintenance program of selected Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (EC&I) systems at West Burton CCGT Power Station. Working as part of the EC&I Maintenance Team, the successful candidate will be the responsible engineer for allocated equipment. The equipment that will be allocated to the successful candidate will be selected taking into account their core engineering discipline and experience, from within the wide range of electrical, control and instrumentation systems installed at West Burton CCGT Power Station. The Engineer role involves managing the longer term integrity of assigned equipment, including obsolescence and replacement strategy and identification and implementation of efficiency and process improvements. Hands-on technical response to reported defects is also a key part of the role, working in coordination with a team of EC&I Technicians. The EC&I Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory and company guidelines in accordance with appropriate quality, engineering and best practice on EC&I systems. Budget and contractor management is a significant part of the role. Suitable candidates may be from either a core Electrical Engineering background, a core Control and Instrumentation background, or combination of both. Contextual Information Operating Environment West Burton CCGT Power Station consists of three 440 MW multi shaft CCGT units and a 49 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The role requires the holder to work within their area of expertise and expand skills and knowledge to meet the growing needs of the business. This requires strong leadership credentials, self-motivation and a proactive approach in order to deliver a positive contribution to the successful operation of the plant. The post holder will be expected to make decisions and be held accountable for those decisions within the scope of their role. Framework & Boundaries The post holder reports to the EC&I Manager. The EC&I Team consists of fifteen directly employed and contract staff, comprising of Engineers and Technicians. They are responsible for delivery of both short term day to day maintenance and longer term strategic overhaul activities. Principal Accountabilities Compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements. Support, contribute to and maintain the health, safety and welfare of self and others. Continual review and optimisation of maintenance strategies for assigned plant areas. Assigned plant areas or equipment could be the electrical or control and instrumentation elements of: Hydrogen and air cooled generators. HV and LV transformers. 400kV substation apparatus. HV and LV distribution, including electrical protection relays. Battery energy storage system. Diesel generators. HV and LV motors. Pneumatic and electrical actuation. Temperature measurement, thermocouples, RTD’s. Pressure, Level and Flow Transmitters. Shaft Line sensors, vibration and proximity probes. Control valve positioners. Steam and water quality analysers (dissolved oxygen, pH, chlorine, conductivity, sodium). Gas quality analysers (hydrogen, methane). Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) (emissions to air and water). Distributed control systems and PLC control systems. Scoping, contracting and delivering major outage overhaul works. Effective delivery of calibration/testing requirements to support statutory and EA permit compliance. Contributing towards Safety Instrumented Functional (SIF) testing to ensure compliance with functional safety requirements, where appropriate. Management of equipment in line with DSEAR, where appropriate. Responsible for leading incident investigations to determine root and contributory causes - development of smart actions to prevent reoccurrence. Responsible for developing and delivering EC&I projects and plant improvements to drive defect elimination. Manage equipment obsolescence and support integration of new plant and equipment. Provide EC&I technical support to wider business through engineering decision making process (EDM). Support EC&I technicians with first line fault diagnosis on systems when complex faults arise. Produce technical specifications for EC&I works and support supply chain to ensure best practice principles are applied. Produce, optimise and manage EC&I budgets in line with the medium term plan. Maintain ISO Accreditation by supporting internal audit program. Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience Knowledge & Skills Essential Strong understanding of legal and corporate requirements of managing safely. An understanding of appropriate health, safety and environmental legislation. Self-motivated with a proven record of driving continuous improvement. Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Strong team working ethics and collaboration. Strong IT skills with the ability to quickly learn and use bespoke business systems. Good understanding of latest asset management techniques. Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a small team. Qualifications & Experience Essential ONC (or equivalent academic qualification) in a relevant subject. Experience in an industrial engineering environment. Desirable Previous experience in CCGT power plant. Previous experience of EC&I systems typically found in a CCGT power plant. HNC (or equivalent academic qualification) or degree in a relevant discipline. IOSH Managing Safely Certificate or NEBOSH Certificate. Experience in producing technical specifications and management of maintenance contracts. Membership of a relevant professional institution. Experience of project management.
