Wales Nursing Support Worker (Graham Davies Ward)

This role involves providing nursing support to patients within the Powys Teaching Health Board. The primary focus is on delivering high quality care in a multidisciplinary environment while maintaining safety, hygiene, and professional standards. The role supports registered healthcare professionals and contributes to service delivery, teaching, and supervision of students and junior staff.


Main Duties of the job

* Work as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients with support and supervision provided by a registered healthcare professional.
* Undertake personal care activities and clinical care duties with minimal support and supervision as delegated by a registered healthcare professional in accordance with the HEIW All Wales Guidelines for Delegation.
* Ensure the registered healthcare professional is regularly updated on the patients/client's condition and progress.
* Ensure the working environment is safe and hygienic following infection prevention and control policies and processes.
* Contribute to the teaching and supervision of students and junior staff.
* Deliver role in accordance with Health Board Values and Code of Conduct for HCSW's in Wales.


Qualifications and Knowledge

* OLevel 3 qualification in a health care related subject or equivalent experience with evidence of work‑based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role.
* Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW).
* Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting, e.g. the principles of Safeguarding adults/children and confidentiality such as General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
* ECDL or equivalent level of computer skills and awareness of the needs of patients and their relatives/carers, including knowledge of voluntary and statutory services.


Experience

* Experience of working within a relevant health or social care environment, providing direct patient care.
* Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice.
* Experience of working within the NHS.

* Good communication skills – verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and sensitively.
* Ability to work with minimum supervision to a high standard.
* Ability to keep calm in stressful situations.
* Ability to demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach.
* Organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise own and others' workload efficiently.
* Ability to use technology to undertake the role, e.g. Microsoft Office, virtual platforms such as TEAMS.
* Physically able to carry out the duties of the role, including lifting, assisting with mobility, and performing other manual tasks.
* Some ability to speak, read and/or write Welsh, or an eagerness to learn.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Salary: £26,300 to £27,890 a year (pro rata)
