Job Summary
Reporting Sonographer – part of the Torbay South Devon Foundation Trust Radiology team. Work independently acquiring and interpreting diagnostic ultrasound images and issuing clinical reports to referring clinicians. Acute and elective general ultrasound scans and obstetric work, including some weekend working.
Responsibilities
* Perform all designated ultrasound scans to required departmental standards, following protocols.
* Safe and efficient use of expensive technical equipment – each transducer costs £6,000 to replace, machine cost £20,000‑£120,000.
* Provide independent clinical opinion via the CRIS system, seeking senior colleague advice where required.
* Supervise and mentor trainee advanced practitioners and provide training for Ob/Gyn registrars, radiologist registrars, and student radiographers.
* Assist the superintendent in appraisal and selection of ultrasound equipment for the Trust.
* Participate in a 7‑day service, including emergency obstetrics and gynaecology scans on Bank holidays.
Qualifications
* Qualified Reporting Sonographer.
* Desirable: Specialist US Qualification supporting the service.
Experience
* Recent experience with an NHS provider.
* Experience in providing independent reports.
